While you around here play, the days keep scribbling themselves in tidy lines

Everything always works out so nicely in plays. Loose ends get tied up, new truths are reached, and the characters come to an understanding. Shouldn't life be like that too? Just neat? Or maybe it does but we see after the curtain closes leaving the players to stumble once again without resolution.

Excuse the poor metaphor.

My 10th grade year our school did the play The Good Woman of Setzuan. At the end of the play, the woman has just revealed that she was masquerading as a man to all the people in the town who hate the man, and the gods have gone home after she asks for their help, since they were the ones who got her into this whole mess in the first place by giving her a bunch of money. The play ends with her reaching out to the gods for help. The End. No happy resolution. It's Bertolt Brecht, so it's a pretty crazy play, but I like that it doesn't get resolved at the end.

life does end up sometimes with tieing up loose ends and understanding, but, as in plays, it takes time. you have to go through the conflict to get to the resolution. you have to go through uncertainty but eventually you will understand why. <3
