A silver lining perhaps

I received an email a few days ago inviting me to a cookout. Grilling out, laying around a fire pit, and playing boardgames. What struck me most was the end of the email where the person picked on themselves for not throwing a wild party, thereby equaling a cool party.

I've been thinking along these same lines - my hope is that there is a resurgence of, not just togetherness, but ACTIVE, creative togetherness - people making their own good times. When we go to a concert or watch a sporting event, we are receiving entertainment - which can be awesome and worth paying for, but we lose something when we decide exclusively to be an audience/consumer.

Now that, for example, iTunes has perfected our ability to be consumers of entertainment from any corner of the planet, and have it be of uniform, permanent quality, I hope we can respond by rejuvenating our ability to actively create experiences that are immediate and ephemeral. You want campfires - I want campfire SONGS.
