I like Pixley. And you can shorten it to Pix when she's older, or call her Pixley when you're snuggling her. When trying out dog's names it always helps to yell them in the street. Two syllables seem to work the best. Although yelling Artemis at a dog park would probably only get you one dog running back to you. Hmmm...."ARTEMIS!"
I think there should be a rule that dog names are short, precisely for the yelling across the park reason.
You have to remember that it'll be at 3am when your dog is tearing into someone else's rubbish across the street and you're on your front steps in your pajamas, that everyone is going to learn what your dog's name is. If you've chosen "Floppsy woppsy" or "Muffincake" you're going to regret it at that moment.
Also, all dogs are essentially wolves, so unless it's some stupid minature fluff ball that you fit in your handbag, which a lab clearly isn't, it's needs a serious "grr" name. So Pixley and Beatrix sound out to me.
On this basis I vote for Si/yd-ney, because Ar-te-mis is one syllable too long.
Heh. Yesterday I said to Drama King, "If we were getting a handbag sized dog, it'd be Pixely all the way!" Although I'd never, EVER put a dog in a handbag! SIck!
Hmmm. Perhaps if you gave him a full name, so you can resort to it when he's a proper grown-up dog. Maybe even double-barreled, for extra dignity. Like Pixley Ashton-Hughes. Or something like that. :)

Artemis will get shortened to Artie. Sorry. Or possibly Missy, which you might like better?

I dislike "Missy" less than I dislike "Artie". But I still don't like it.
The other "con" of Beatrix is that I'd use "Trixie" as the short form, which is your dog name.

Assume from now on that I think you think "Chewbacca" is a top choice for anything in my life that might need naming. :)
