Chapter Five
Maxie bounced into Kelly’s with a smile on her face. She was happy considering the past two weeks she’s had. It had been two weeks since she and Spinelli had had mind blowing pool table sex. She was still tingling inside just from the thought.
They had had a couple of run-ins since then, nothing significant, but today was different. She had overheard Milo and that new girl Nadine talking over at the coffee house. Nadine had come in looking for Spinelli, which pissed her off to no end, and Milo told her that he was at Kelly’s. Maxie took the initiative and introduced the bodyguard to the cute, obnoxious, nurse. She told Nadine, that she was on her way over to Kelly’s and that she would tell Spinelli that Nadine needed to speak with him. Nadine hesitated at first, but Maxie insisted and told her to stay and get to know Milo. The obnoxious twit finally agreed at the last minute.
So here she was, “fetching” Spinelli for Nadine.
She looked around the busy café and found him sitting at a table in the corner, very close to her sister. What the hell!?
Maxie slowly approached their table. “Hey Georgie,” she said hesitantly, never taking her eyes off of Spinelli. He acted as though he didn’t acknowledge her, never taking his eyes off his laptop.
“Hey Maxie,” she greeted her with a smile. “Are you looking for Coop, because I think he’s still upstairs?”
“No, I’m actually looking for Spinelli,” she replied, as she walked around to his side of the table. She grinned when he looked at her in fear. Maxie could tell he was afraid she would reveal their dirty little secret.
“What do you want with Spinelli?” her sister asked. Maxie noticed a slight irritation in her voice. She wondered where that was coming from. Surly Georgie didn’t have a thing for the poor geek.
Before Maxie could answer, Coop and Logan came running down the stairs in a screaming argument. They approached the table, coming to stand directly in front of Maxie and Spinelli.
“You’re still protecting this bitch after what she did to you?” Logan asked Coop, knocking Maxie out of the way.
Maxie landed in Spinelli’s lap, before she could stop herself. She sat on his lap, facing her sister. She was stunned. She was excited. And so was he.
Georgie cried out with laughter, bringing Maxie back from her fantasy.
“What?” she asked, moving a bit in his lap. His body stiffened behind her and before she knew it, he was standing up and she was in the floor.
“Maxie, are you alright?” Georgie exclaimed, trying to help her up off the floor.
“I’m fine,” she snapped, yanking her arm out of her sister’s grasp. She turned to look at Spinelli, who was putting his laptop in his bag, preparing to leave. The she looked at the shocked looks on Logan and Coop’s faces.
“That was rude, you know that?” she asked, grabbing Spinelli’s arm.
He ignored her. “The Jackal apologizes to Wise Georgie, but I just remembered that Stone Cold is in need of my assistance.”
That ass won’t even look at me.
“That’s okay Spinelli, we can finish up later,” her sister replied with a smile. He returned her smile before walking out the door.
“Why were you being so nice to him after he threw me on the floor?” Maxie snapped, turning to face her sister.
“Maxie, I know the two of you can’t stand each other, but that was funny. You should’ve seen the look on your faces when you fell in his lap. It was priceless,” Georgie explained with another giggle.
“It wasn’t that funny,” she huffed, sitting in Spinelli’s empty chair.
“I need to go,” Coop stated as he pushed past Logan.
Maxie jumped up. “Wait Coop!” she exclaimed, but he was already out the door. She sat back down in her chair.
“You know what’s funny; Spinelli was never disillusioned by you. That’s the only thing the kid had going for him. He saw you for the trash that you are. I may need to buy him a drink for throwing you on the floor.” Logan replied with a chuckle.
“Leave Maxie alone,” Georgie snapped.
He gave them another smile before walking out the door.
Maxie looked down at lap. Maybe she was trash. Maybe that’s the reason Spinelli threw her in the floor. Maybe he only wanted her for one thing like every other guy. But she couldn’t believe that, because he wasn’t like every other guy. He proved that to her a couple of weeks ago.
“Maxie don’t let the filth that comes out of Logan’s mouth affect you.” Georgie took Maxie’s hand in hers and gave her a smile. Maxie smiled back.
“I won’t. Now what were you and geek boy discussing when I came in?” she asked, trying to clear her negative thoughts.
“I wish you wouldn’t call him that,” her sister replied, reaching for her purse.
Maxie knew her sister would die if she knew what she called him the other night. She still couldn’t believe she called him Kinky D. She turned her head, trying to hide her blush from her sister.
“I think I’m going to do a study abroad next year. Spinelli has been helping me gather information on different places I’d like to go,” Georgie explained with excitement.
Maxie sat back and listened to her sister’s praise of Spinelli and looked at the brochures she gave her. She wiggled in the hard chair, missing her cushion from earlier. Not saying that that wasn’t hard either. She smiled.
“What are you smiling about?” Georgie asked, giving her a curious look.
“Oh nothing really, I’m just happy to see you so happy.” Maxie was glad when her sister went back to telling her story. She wondered if Spinelli did indeed have work to do for Jason. Then she remembered why she came there in the first place. Oh well, did that little burse think she was actually going to do her bidding for her? If she did, Nadine Crowell didn’t know Maxie Jones.
“By the way, what did you need to talk to Spinelli about?” Georgie asked.
“Nothing of importance,” she replied with a smile. Maxie pushed all thoughts from her head and set out to have a wonderful afternoon with her sister.
