True Love
Part Three
Matt felt the sharp, bitter cold air hit his face as he walked out on the roof. He was thankful Patrick had paged him for that consultation, because he wasn’t sure how much longer he could be in the same room with her without throwing her against the wall and showing her how a man really kissed a woman. But maybe that’s wasn’t what she wanted. Maybe she wanted the tender yet passionate kisses of her prince, instead the hot and forceful passionate kisses he could give. God, he would never understand her and it was driving him crazy just trying to.
He stood beside the ledge and pulled the pack of cigarettes from his pocket. He knew that he shouldn’t give into this temptation, but he had been fighting it for so long. He was tired of fighting. He needed to feel that slow burn in his chest, hoping that it would replace the conflict that was already there. He took a deep draw off the cigarette and looked out over the cursed city. It was one…two…three more draws before he felt the effects of the nicotine. He was calm. Finally.
“Matthew Hunter, just what do you think you’re doing?”
Damn. He turned toward the door to find the woman who had been driving him crazy for months. “I’m smoking a cigarette, what does it look like I’m doing?” he asked sarcastically as he raised the cigarette back to his lips.
“It looks like you’re trying to get lung cancer,” she snapped, snatching the cigarette out of his mouth, throwing it to the ground.
“Damn it Nadine,” he yelled.
“You can yell all you want, but I’m not going to let you send yourself to an early grave,” she paused to look at his attire. “You’re out here in the freezing cold night air without a coat on and nothing on your head? Do you want to get sick?”
Matt watched as she pulled her coat and scarf tightly around her delicate neck. She looked so adorable. She almost made him smile, almost. “No, I wanted to get away from this blonde nurse I know, who loves to nag me at every turn,” he replied, smirking down at her.
She pouted. “I’m not a nag. I like to think of myself as a motivational speaker.”
Matt couldn’t help but laugh.
“Ha, I made you laugh,” she said triumphantly.
“Nadine, I’m not in the mood for your games,” he replied with a frown. He really wasn’t. He wanted to be angry with her, not laugh with her. “You obviously came up here for some alone time, so I’ll be going.” Matt started for the door when her small hand stopped him. He looked down at her gloved hand covering his before looking into her bright, hopeful eyes.
“I was looking for you. I need to tell you something,” she explained.
“Then tell me,” he said with frustration.
“Well it’s a little compli…”
“I don’t care, just tell me and be done with it.”
“It’s not something you just blurt out.”
“Nadine, I don’t have time for this.” He began to walk past her. He was leaving…he was, but she just HAD to go and tell him.
“Aright you big lug, I’m well on my way to falling in love with you.”
He looked at her in shock.
“There I said it. Good Lord, you can’t begin to know how great it is to get that off my chest. Now mind you, I’m not completely in love with you, but I’m at the top of the log ride, just about ready to fall,” she rambled.
He laughed. Leave it to Nadine to compare her feelings for him to the log ride.
“You’re laughing at me? I pour my heart out and you’re standing there laughing?” she screamed.
This only made him laugh more. “I’m not laughing at you, but at your comparison of our love.”
“Did you just say ‘our’ love?”
Shit, did he say that? He had to get off this roof top. He started to walk past her again, but she blocked his path.
“Oh no you don’t mister.”
One moment he was standing there trying to decide whether he should just go on and jump off the ledge closets to him, the next their lips were fused together. His shock turned into heat pretty quick. He plunged his tongue into her warm mouth as he held her head still, her hair wrapped tightly in his fist.
His desire only increased when she moaned his name, pulling at his hair.
He pulled back breathlessly and spoke against her swollen lips. “I might be willing to take that fall with you.”
She smiled against his lips before she placed another soft kiss on his lips.
Their second kiss was sweet and tender, much like the ones expected she had shared with her one time prince, but he didn’t care. He held her face in his hands as his lips moved over hers. He paused, feeling something wet hit his face. Great, that all he needed was a love struck crying Nadine on his hands. He pulled back, surprised to see that that wasn’t the case. Snow was falling all around them.
“Look Matt, even God thinks our love is pure,” she commented with a big grin on her face.
Matt smiled and kissed the tip of her nose before pulling her back into a passionate kiss. He wasn’t sure if they even had a chance, but he was definitely going to enjoy the ride.
