In an effort to take a multi-faceted approach to getting into better shape, one thing I'm considering is riding my bike to work. And that includes in the winter with the rain and cold, etc. I wonder... is that a bad idea? I'm sure I could find adequate rain gear and stuff.

I know Steve Sandberg rode his bike to work rain or shine for many, many, many years. Well, until he got married and moved out of his parents house. (Did you know he got married?)

He actually married a great gal, got rid of that green and brown suit, and he looks, acts and dresses normally now. He has mostly come out of his shell... a hard thing to do starting in your 50's.

I'm just teasing you... Bike riding to work is excellent, but I'd have a ready backup plan. I wouldn't *plan* on riding on days when it's really rainy. Sprinkling maybe, but cut yourself some slack and drive when it's really cold or soggy.

Jason was going to do it at one point, but he never got around to it. I think it was just a little intimidating to have to cross the 205 bridge in all the Portland Sogginess. Kudos to you if you actually give it a go.

It probably WOULD be much faster than taking the bus. But much less entertaining. I bet if your ride it long enough you will run into Frank. Maybe he'll even give you some of Mom's coffee.

On a more serious note: Working out is so good for you for a number of reasons. But probably the biggest one is how much the gay men in your office will enjoy seeing you arrive and depart on your bike. Don't foget the spandex.
