I'm starting to wonder if maybe my expectations of myself are too low, or maybe i'm too easily impressed or something ( Read more... )

Hey hon, Like I am one to comment ;)
But both images are really great, I really like the shading in the first one.
The second one took my breath away, mostly because its just a very vivid picture, but I think because it has a flate two D dimension for it, it doesn't do it justice. Still a great picture just lacking some more shading to it.

I Think you did a really great job. :) *Nuzz!*

I think i recognize the subject of the first one and if it's not what I think it is, then damn it sure looks close.

The second is really good too.

My thoughts are this. Do what makes you happy. There will always be people out there who don't like what you do, think it's crap, you need to do your thing the exact same way other people do their thing, etc. If you try to make everyone happy, you'll fail and you'll even make yourself unhappy.

You can't draw as well as other people, they probably had to practice, same as you. Keep it up (I STILL love the exploding car face and want to steal it for an avatar for MSN) and you'll soon get "better".

You're too hard on yourself, if you ask me.

No matter who you are, if you expect to be an expert when you start, you're setting yourself up for a fall.

You need to focus on the fact that you're getting better. MUCH better. For the amount of time you've been doing this, you're doing very well. That's what's important.

People who say anything other than that expect that anyone who's an "artist" is an expert, and anyone who's not an expert isn't an "artist". Well, it doesn't work that way. You have to work at becoming an expert, and as long as you do, you will continue to get closer to it.

Most of the media we recognize as 'art' are dead, and all that matters is if someone (including you) likes what you're doing, and I particularly like the way the body is shaped in the first image.
