It's not too late to wish you all a very Happy New Year, is it?
So,
Happy New Year! :-)) (YSI link)
Now, as for more ballet: the other day, one of our networks aired clips of different Swan Lake interpretations. The first was the classical Nureyev/Fonteyn Pas de Deux, the second a funny version of the little swans (sort of like
this one at YouTube), the third a Pas de Deux from a whole new choreography by Matthew Bourne, and the fourth a very modern(istic) version.
The one that really blew me away was the third. The choreography is powerful and fantastic, the dancers are brilliant. I found two reviews,
here and
here (spoilers!), that have some more background information.
Now, there seem to be two different ways to interpret Bourne's choreography: either as a gay coming-out story, or as the story of a prince's search for love and honesty and generally a life free of conventions and social constraints (and dreaming about the man he would like to be). Either way, it's beautiful, and I found it to be breathtaking, even mesmerizing.
I was very happy when I found this scene on YouTube, along with some more clips of scenes set before and after that are just as great.
