Romeo / Dolhai Attila
This is focused on Dolhai Attila, because he is the best Romeo imo <3 Not that Kocsis Dénes was bad, but I got kind of blown away by Dolhai's performance.
First of all: Oh. My. God. What a voice! It astonished me how amazing he was live. Just AMAZING.
Compared to the pro-shot, I feel Dolhai plays Romeo as much more jokey, spazzy and comedic Romeo. His teasing is more full of giggles, his movements are a bit "sloppy" (they are exact, but acted to look a bit uncontrolled and clumsy). I think it's to make him look younger? At least, that was the impression I received.
When he runs from Julia's balcony, he is shouting and giggling to himself, and gives several biiiig smooches to the servant lady he encounters, who seems very flustered and fairly delighted (until she realizes he was a Montague).
And since Dolhai is really, really not looking like a teenager any more, acting up the youth is sorely needed. I felt it worked well!
When Romeo breaks in the end, it's terrifying and so sad. He's terrified, vengeful, and less lost than in pro-shot but far more angry I think.
Also, the man is apparently insanely strong. I approve very much of him playing Jean Valjean in the future (he'd totally be able to do the shy kindness too, I think). When he carries Julia's "corpse" I honestly thought it was a puppet a few times, because he handles her as if it's nothing. He also jumps down from Julia's (~2 m high) balcony and then jumps back up, and pulls himself up freehand to give her a final kiss.
Impressions of Paris & Escalus soldiers
I saw Szerenyi Laszlo as Paris, and found him interesting but fairly similar to Homonnay Zsolt. I also saw Kádár Szabolcs, who seems to play a younger, less secure Paris. Instantly he de-slimes the character by something like 75%, heh. I more got a vibe of this guy being clueless (as opposed to the Massive Ego of the proshot) and not knowing about all the poison in Verona/the Capulet household. He seems to do some vague attempts at comforting Capulet as they sing Holnap, but otherwise acts very lost over Julia's death and during the Verona burning song.
With two viewings I'm certain now that the soldiers (one of which is a woman) in vinyl details and with pointy shoulder pads belong to the Prince. His boots and his cape is also vinyl, so think it's "his" color. In A téboly (Verona burning) specifically, these soldiers have thick chains around their wrists, which they kind of hold up - I honestly can't remember if they were cuffed or only held them, but symbolically, they might be both?
They try to stop KMM!Benvolio from leaving Verona (I'm not sure about MAZ!Volio, I might have missed that) and he runs around them while Paris sings, the city burns and Montagues and Capulets fight. Rosza really got into it with a Montague man, the same one who forced Peter to play along in Hahaha. Anyway, Benvolio goes out on the front-stage (there's a passage before the orchestra ditch) and then climbs up a ladder, where he waits until the fighting is over and then he goes into singing his sad solo.
At the end of this song, the soldiers drive away all the Montagues and Capulets, and two of them grab Paris' holds his arms out and push him to his knees, while the Prince appears on the raised part of the stage in the back, before the stage darkens and Benvolio starts singing while climbing down the ladder. I'm not sure if he's arrested, or if they just give him a talking to? We see him in the crypt the next time.
Szívből szeretni (with focus on Tybalt)
Okay, I admit - I looked very little at Romeo and Julia during this scene. Julia still has an amazing cleavage, they both wear white, Nurse is a witness to the marriage… AND TYBALT IS ON STAGE.
There are all these "silhouette people" in this song, miming at making love. Most of them are in couples, but not all - Rosza for instance seems to switch between different guys, Lady Capulet's lover-boy is there but alone - but they all sing and take part of the dancing.
Except Tybalt. In the beginning he's just another shadow among the others, but he moves considerably less, going from kneeling to sitting on the side and staring at his locket, then back to kneeling. At the end, when everyone kneels (or kind of clings to each other) and face forward, and Romeo and Julia are married, there is a light aimed at him and at Romeo and Julia, while the rest kind of disappear in smoke and shadows. Tybalt is standing on his knees, silent (now it gets very obvious that his mouth isn't moving) and stares straight ahead while the choir finishes on "...szerelem!".
I found it heartbreaking and I think that even if you aren't a crazy Tybalt-stan, it makes a nice contrast to the true love marriage, and random lovemaking going on at the stage. It also foreshadows his role in the coming disasters well. And Szil has the best tragic face augh.
