If you didn't have work and class and studying, I'd have you off on the next plane out there to make sure everyone's okay in person...

Of course, figuring out how to get to some of said peoples would be a pain. :P

The real question is would your being there make any meaningful difference even if something did happen to somebody you know? You have plenty on your plate that you need to focus on without stressing about things that are out of your control. Sorry if I sound like a dick but hey, its what I do. Study hard, feel better, and stress less, both for your sake and for your wafroed companion who has seemed a bit mopey lately due to your need for isolation.

If someone I knew had died, I think my presence WOULD have helped, considering it's my JOB and all to counsel people. I am fully aware of the lack of logic of desiring to be there, but who said I had to be logical all the time?

As for my wafroed companion, at least it will be over in 3 weeks.

This is true if you COULD be detached enough from a situation that was that intimate to you, job or no job.

I'm glad to hear everyone you know is safe up there! I've also either contacted myself or heard from others that those I know are all okay as well. My friend Andy from Seminary (you may know him too, he went to Luther College as well...) drove over the bridge about 2 hours before the collapse! It's pretty nuts, and very sad for those that did loose loved ones.
