Attorney General Alberto Gonzales--yay or nay?

Personally, I'm glad to see that right-wing nutjob Ashcroft out of office, but Gonzales' record isn't much better. If you haven't heard about his memo, let me give you a little recap--against most military officials' will he created a document that gave the U.S. the power to "interrogate" POWs to the ( Read more... )

yes token, yes he's a right wing nut...but consider this.

Ashcroft subpoenaed medical records of women who'd had late term abortions in several states in order to "make sure they were medically necessary." Illegally, if I remember correctly, but I'm not positive.

Gonzales voted against parental consent for abortion as a member of the Texas supreme court. Quote: "While the ramifications of such a law may be personally troubling to me as a parent, it is my obligation as a judge to impartially apply the laws of this state without imposing my moral view on the decisions of the legislature."

And Charles Schumer, D NY "It's encouraging that the president has chosen someone less polarizing. We will have to review his record very carefully, but I can tell you already he's a better candidate than John Ashcroft."

So I'm hopeful.

"...but I can tell you already he's a better candidate than John Ashcroft."

That's really not saying much.

I'm hopeful too, but I'm certainly not holding my breath.

Well, I guess since he's about to lose one of his tokens (Colin Powell) he had to find a replacement...he's probably going to be less radical than Ashcroft, but then again who isn't...this is a great political move on their part..they are appealing to the growing (and increasingly conservative) Hispanic population..

You've got to figure Bush is under the (realistic) impression that he owes his re-election to the ignorant and the crazy, and therefore he feels they must be represented in his cabinet. It makes sense in a sort of sick and twisted way.

Thanks, sweetie. I'm just trying to show my colors. I don't believe in God, but I do believe in Wink Martindale.

For some truly amusing reading, check out this thread, which is basically the codification of a whole religion based on Wink Martindale worship:
