I'm off to Bicon! [Edit: I am at Bicon! And have finally sorted out internet access in my bedroom. All is right with the world.] The ball theme is Bisexuals in Space, and as my costume is more conceptual than retinal, I thought it wouldn't spoil the effect to write up the background in advance.

This is delightful. I would very much like a badge if you have any left.
I am imagining the Ruritanian Space Agency top brass taking month-long scoping trips for suitable launch sites, but really just hanging out in hunting lodges in the forest swapping political reminiscences.

Those sort of scoping trips probably might not be too ruinously expensive: I'm not sure the Ruritanian Space Agency's top brass comprises many individuals beyond Lightyear himself.

Yes! Until someone else at Bicon also reminded me, I had completely forgotten about the very excellent film The Mouse on the Moon (not read the book), which had put the idea of a Ruritanian-style Space Agency in to my head many years ago.
