This is a project I did for my Honors Lecture

I am Clay in His Hands

“Beautiful Lord, Wonderful Savior. I know for sure all of my days are held in your hand, crafted into your perfect plan. Take me, mould me, use me, fill me. I give my life to the Potter’s hand. Call me, guide me, lead me, walk beside me. I give my life to the Potter’s hand.” (Taken from a song entitled The Potter’s Hand.)
“Like clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in my hand. (Jeremiah 18:6)”

This is what I wrote in gold letters and lined in black, on the “clay jar” I created from papier-mâché, to display my consiliating theme.

To Wilson, it was blatantly obvious that physics was his consiliating theme. He wrote a whole book explaining and discussing why. I can’t do this in a short supplement to my visual, but I will try as hard as I can to describe my reasons.

My relationship with God is possible by believing in the blood shed by Jesus Christ on the cross for my sins. By having faith that he did this for me, and that he overcame death by resurrecting on the third day, it is possible for me to have a personal, tangible, unique relationship with God. Having this relationship with God has changed my life. It has turned me right-side up and caused me to look at all things through a more godly perspective. By “godly”, I do not mean that I am perfect, or that I am equal to God, but that I am trying as best as I can to live my life in a way that pleases Him. So in doing that, the clothes I wear, the music I listen to, the art I appreciate, all have to do with God. For example, I when I look at an abstract peace of art, I may interpret it to have a meaning that symbolizes my life and how God has played a part in forming it. When I listen to a song, I know I will not enjoy it, if it is about drugs or explicit sex. When it comes to clothing, I will try as best as I can to dress in a modest manner, so that I won’t cause a man to look at me and think of me in a sexual way. I know I cannot control how people look at me, but I don’t want to call unnecessary attention to myself and cause other people to stumble.

The best part of having a personal relationship with God, is knowing that he has got everything under control. So that no matter what happens, good, bad, wonderful or tragic, I know I can rest because I am holding his hand to guide my every move. His guidance depends on my obedience though, which involves surrendering my will to His more perfect and all-knowing will. This is hard, and I must re-surrender to Him daily, but it shows reverence to God for the wonderful plan and purpose He has for my life. If I am living my life in a way that is fulfilling God’s purpose for my life, then my life has meaning and significance. Any energy outside of giving glory to God is wasted energy. I don’t mean that I am going to leave all family and friends and go to the mountains of South America as a missionary. Some people are called to that purpose. If it is mine, then I am willing to go. Being a missionary in a foreign country, is not the only plan God has for his children. He gives every one a special talent and interest, and using that, whatever it may be, for God’s glory, is fulfilling His purpose for your life.

I want to share some areas in the Bible, to further display why my relationship with God and how he guides my life is my consiliating theme. These are all sited from the New International Version of the
Bible,

“Yet, Oh Lord you are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand.” Isaiah 64:8

“[We] are now considered as pots of clay, the work of the potter’s hands!” Lamentations 4:2b

“Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” Philippians 1:6

“You hem me in- behind and before; you have laid your hand upon me. Such knowledge is to wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain… For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would number the grains of sand. When I awake, I am still with you.” Psalm 139:5-6, 13-18

“The Lord will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden like a spring whose waters never fail.” Isaiah 58:11

“Teach me your way, O LORD; lead me in a straight path…” Psalm 27:11a

Hopefully, through these verses, I was able to display why I chose to create a clay pot as the visual aide for my consiliating theme. Ultimately, I am clay to be molded and sculpted into a masterpiece of art by God.
