[The Kalòn Kakòn and The Enterprise] [The Reboot!Kirks and Pike]

“What is it now?” Sam moaned, rubbing the sleep from his eyes. They’d had a scare the previous day and he had found his shift on the bridge extended to almost a full twenty four hours.

“Normally, I wouldn’t have awoken you-“

“You always say that,” Sam mumbled as he fished around for the shirt he’d dropped it on the floor the night before.

The engineer grumbled before continuing. “It is important this time. One of the containment receptacles is cracked.”

Sam stared up the head engineer.

“Put it in another one,” he said. “Now excuse me while I go back to sleep.”
“The two spares we have are cracked two.”

“Fuck,” Sam hissed and tumbled out of bed.

More often than not, piracy didn’t pay. Radiation poisoning would not be a particularly dignified way to go. If someone came across the Kalòn Kakòn floating along in space, devoid of all life, they could sleep easy knowing that a radiation leak had killed evil pirates instead of the transport crew it’d been stolen from.
Brushing past the head engineer, he went out into his office. Tapping the wall panel, behind his desk he sent out a summons to the bridge. He flopped back into his desk chair and turned it to look at the engineer, who stood in front of it uncomfortably.

“Is there anyone in the area?” Sam asked the engineer, who only shrugged in response.

“Captain?” crackled a voice over the intercom.

“What ships are in the area?”

“Just a transport ship out of Phoebus VI named the U.S.S. Osprey.”

Sam steepled his fingers in front of his face with his elbows set just at the edge of his desk. “Phoebus Vi is a mining colony if. If it is out of there it’ll make runs from Phoebus VI to the nearest Starbase. Pretty much guaranteed to have containment receptacles onboard. ”

The engineer looked on with concern. Their last attack had resulted in major structural damage to portions of the ship and they still did not have full warp capability. Even attacking a small transport ship would be a risky endeavor.

“You got any better ideas?” Sam asked as he turned back around from tapping the panel to cut off communications with the bridge.

“No, sir.”

Hailing U.S.S. Osprey

Captain Osouna of the U.S.S. Osprey, I am Captain Kirk of the Kalòn Kakòn. We can do this one of two ways. You can stop now and let us take what we’re after, or you can run and we can hunt you down. I’d really prefer not to waste time running after you. You have four hours to respond.
