These past several months have put in perspective how privileged my life was before. I’ve learned a little bit of what it’s like not to have everything handed to you and how to do without. I’m very tired of learning important lessons.

"Life is very tiring sometimes."

((Why is so much stuff labeled all with question marks when I'm typing a comment?))

“And yet still preferable to the alternative,” she answer in what she tries to make a cheerful tone. “I’ve missed you.”

Aya smiles and reaches out hug Ali.

((I think it has something to do with my typing the question in Microsoft Works and cutting and pasting it to Livejournal, but honestly I‘m not sure.))

Sorry Aya, no hugs for you. "Usually, yeah."

((I mean like, the "Post" button. O.o))

Aya blinks in surprise. She folds her arms around herself.

“Usually? Is everything alright?”

((Ah! No idea.))

"Ultimately, what you strive to achieve tastes sweeter than something handed to you. And other zenlike statements."

"I don't think bitter or sweet would matter in Zen. I think it's more like: stop caring about desiring stuff and stuff will stop bothering you. Or something like that." She brushes her hair away from her face and gives him a concerned look. "Anyway, I don't remember you as being Zen-like. Are you still you?"

He shrugged. "I'm full of wisdom, I'm just too lazy to ever apply it." Now that was a much more Geoff-like saying.

Reassure that Geoff is still himself, she smiles and reaches out to give her friend a hug.

"It's kind of you to try to share the wisdom, anyway."

Funny how change can adjust your view of things like that... or not so funny I guess.

So, I'm guessing things haven't been going as great as they could be, huh?

The phrasing of the question strikes her as being interesting.

"Things are going as great as they could be." Her expression becomes pinched as she tries to figure out a way to explain.

"I have everything I need. I just had so much more before. And I know that sounds selfish and stupid, but I guess I am kind of selfish and stupid sometimes."

It's not stupid to miss what you once had. You get used to things, attached to things and, even if they're not necessary in the strictest sense, if they became important to you. It only makes sense to miss it.

And, I'm not exactly sure of what all of the situation is so I dunno if it's selfish or not.

"I miss my dad and my mom and brother and the rest of my family, because they aren't speaking to me now." She kicks at the ground.

"But my family was--" She pauses. "-- well-to-do. And I also miss having things. And having things taken care of."

She looks up at him.

"I'm talking too much about me. What is going on with you?"

"But how much worse if you had yet to learn these lessons? I've found that the older one is when such lessons are shoved upon them, the more difficult this knowledge is to grasp. And until one is capable of comprehending, they are often prone to having such lessons repeated.

"Still, it is very exhausting a process, and one I'll admit I avoid when possible. I'm sorry to hear that you had need of such an experience."

And just for the record, the Count is currently a Countess. Why? Because this LOL won't die.

Aya opens her mouth but nothing comes out. The Count is, if possible, more beautiful as a Countess.

"Thank you for your sympathy, sir. Madam." She feels flustered and courtesies.

"I'm sure the lessons are useful and necessary and -- my God, you're beautiful."

Well well, look at that. Apparently the Count is capable of blushing, because she is. Not much, but those cheeks are definitely pinker than they were a second ago.

"I am?," the Count blurts out, before she can stop to think. "My apologies Aya. You wouldn't say such a thing without believing it.

"Thank you. I'm afraid it isn't permanent, merely a trick of the Nexus. Quite an interesting one, but I will confess I'll be very happy when it ends."

Her cheeks are stained bright red, and she feels very bold as she answers, "Of course, I've always thought you were beautiful."

She doesn't mention that she thinks it would be interesting to be a boy for a short time.

She takes a step forward.

"Before when we exchanged words, you offered to hug me when you saw me next. Would you still be comfortable doing so?" She wants to add 'sir' or 'madam' at the end, but isn't sure what to use, so she lets go of the formality.

I learned that myself years back. It was a rude awakening. At least you have some people who help you get through, don't you, Aya?

::And Aya-kun is ready to slap Ali down if necessary over the hug thing. Aya-chans should get hugs.::

She grins brightly and tries to pull her brother into a big hug.

"I am very lucky way big brother. How have you been Ran?"

Slap downs will not be necessary. She would prefer hugs from Ran anyway.

::hugs you big time::

I'm starting to see someone, though I don't know how it will go. ::smiles a little:: I met him at a science fiction book club. He introduced himself to me after I walked out on the other readers in frustration.

She heart beat a little faster and tries to hold brother just a bit closer. She tells herself to calm down and not get her hopes up too high or put too much pressure on her brother.

"I'm happy for you, Ran. I hope it works out. What's he like, besides being a science fiction fan with good taste?"
