Since a couple characters mentioned doing research on her little problem in
Aya and Ginta's Sages post asking about exorcisms, I thought I'd give them something to find.
Basis in Myth
There isn't one.
x_ginta_x-mun researched the magical mumbo jumbo spouted by the Eszett Elders. The only thing she was able to find was and a book description for Nagas: Rulers of India where
Baldou is mentioned as being the older brother of Krishna. Specifically:
Baldeva or Baldou, the elder brother of Krishna is said to be reincarnation of SeshaNaga, hence he was always under the protection of many hoods of cobra. At his death his soul came out of his mouth in the form of large cobra.
And that’s it! That’s all we found.
Because of his association with Baldou, I am making the demon inside Aya-chan loosely associated with the Hindu pantheon.
Basis in Weiss Kreuz Canon
In episodes 24 and 25 of Weiss Kruez: Kapitel the Elders of an organization named Eszett try to resurrect a their Leader. The resurrection of the Leader is said to have been the entire reason Eszett was founded.
With the help of the Green Dragon Group, the Elders obtained the Book of Transcendentalism that tells them perform the resurrection ritual. According to the Elders, the ritual would be almost impossible to perform correctly unless all the stars are "in the house of the new moon".
Aya-chan is chosen to be sacrificed to the demon because her body stopped aging while she was in a coma. A girl who closely resembles Aya took her place during the ritual, and Weiss was able to stop the ritual from being completed.
The Elders fail to complete the ritual due the betrayal of Schwarz, their supposed minions, and the interference of Weiss, a vigilante group of whom Aya's brother is a member.
If you would like to know more about the basis of the demon in Weiss Kreuz canon, I have transcribed what I felt were the most relevant parts of episodes 24 and 25 and included them
here. You may also watch the episodes on You Tube It. Links to the episodes can be found
here.
Basis in Weiss Kreuz Fanon
Personally, after watching episodes 24 and 25 many, many times, I am not at all certain that the Eszett Elders were trying to raise a demon. It seems plausible that they were trying to resurrect a human leader that died; however, I have never seen this view anywhere in Weiss Kreuz fanon. It has been accepted by fandom that Eszett were trying to raise a demon, and that is the assumption that I have followed.
Everything else is made up. I am solely responsible for any and all flaws.
The Demon
Dahatou was demon who defied the ancient Hindu gods. He was sealed up by a priest of Baldou, the older brother of Krishna, long before the Vedic texts were written.
Dahatou was so hated and feared that little was written about him. His name, when it was record at all, was written in association with the most abhorrent demons and practices.
The demon's followers spread suffering throughout the world in attempt to create a world in Dahatou can be revived.
The few archeologists and other researchers who tried to find out more about Dahatou and his followers have all come to messy ends.
The First of Many Failed Rituals
Fifty years ago before they attempted the ritual on Aya-chan, the Elders attempted the ritual and failed. The sacrifice they selected to host the demon died because the demonic energy put too much of a strain on his body. The Elder's saw that only someone like Aya-chan, who does not age, could survive the strain of hosting the demon.
Things That Have Already Happened
Sakura, who had disguised herself as Aya-chan, was awake when the Eszett Elders tried to perform the ritual on her.
After she and Farfarello were tortured by her world’s Nagi, Aya-chan decided that becoming a demon was the only way she could stop him without anyone else getting hurt.
Aya-chan made Sakura tell her about the ritual in detail and
tried to perform the ritual on herself. She failed to resurrect Dahatou, but may have brought back something else.
The Green Dragon Group
Aya-chan‘s attempt to raise Dahatou drew the attention of the Green Dragon Group, who keep an eye on all things mystical taking place in Japan.
The Green Dragon Group are not Eszett. They do not see Dahatou as a god. They see him as tool.
The GDG were willing to let Eszett do all the work in raising the demon so that they could then bring the demon to heel with their mystical mojo. They have the means to control Dahatou because they possess knowledge from The Book of Transcendentalism.
When the GDG found Aya-chan willing to sacrifice herself, they thought one of two things would happen: (1) She would have the powers of Dahatou, which would become theirs to control, or, (2) She would die, which didn’t matter much to them. Since she was the only person who could possibly survive the ritual, they decided to proceed.
The ritual was completely successfully enough to give Aya-chan access to the power of Dahatou and the GDG had hoped; however, she proved to be slightly less predictable than the demon god. She raised the Ani Museum out of the ocean immediately after getting her shiny, new demon powers and escaped in the confusion.
The Twist
The demon is locked away tightly away. Aya-chan has just been given the ability to tap into it's powers. This is because Dahatou can only be revived successfully when the stars are in the house of the new moon. Aya-chan's ritual was months too late. She alone is responsible for anything and everything she does. She cannot claim, “The devil made me do it.”
The Other, Mildly Existentialist Twist
Aya-chan gave up her soul to play host to the demon. Or perhaps she gave up her soul when
she killed Nagi. In event, it’s gone. If and when the demon is exorcised, she is not automatically getting it back. She has to earn it back. (Thank you, Simpsons!)
Not having a soul doesn’t change the way she behaves. It won’t make her not reflect in mirrors or unable to enter churches. I simply want to make sure actions have consequences, and the ideal of having to earn a soul truly appeals to me.
Feedback of any kind is welcome.
