Good heavens, yes--thought I was gonna rocket into orbit. You know what that does to a woman my age? Well, of course you do. That's where Erika's eyes got real big and she whispered, "daaaayum."
We watched Oklahoma! last night, with a very young and charming Hugh Jackman, and it was marvelous. All that hotness, and he sings, too...and not a little, either. Great, big, sell-it-to-the-cheap-seats Broadway voice! The man's a complete package of perfection. That was THE most intense portrayal of Curly I've ever seen. Gordon McRae's got nothin'. NOTHIN'!

Actually, I came away from it feeling much more aware of how Australia's history sort of mirrors our own, and understanding that the postcard beauty of the place only serves as a backdrop to the same human struggle that takes place everywhere in the "new world." It was equal parts brilliant and silly, which is pretty much how I like things, so s'all good.
Yes, I think that's what Guy meant, too. That it was too "Hollywood" and a bit too similar to American WWII movies to be quintessentially Australian. That it lacked anything that makes us unique.

Yeah, "Australia" is a rather silly movie, but very nice on the eyes.
