Notes: Mike/Matt kind of dominated this chapter, but that's because I love them so very much.
It was from Puck that Mike heard about this little steakhouse in Toledo that would cost you about a month’s paycheck, but was guaranteed to get you at least some action. And while normally Mike would refrain from not only spending that much on food, but driving an hour just to eat it, Mike figured if he was already going to be out that way, he might as well make it special. If worst came to worst he was pretty sure he could find a burger joint that could make him, and his date just as happy. After all, Mike’s usual date plan involved going to a movie and grabbing take out, and eating it at a local park if it was a nice enough night so when he decides he wants to do it up right; he was going to go all the way. From picking out the perfect dress shirt, with help from Kurt and Brittney, to the right music in the car, with help from Mercedes, to everything else in between he was going to make sure that night was going to be special.
It started by picking up Tina, who had dressed up for the evening as he told her she should. From there he went and let her pick out which music she wanted to listen to on the radio because he was in too good of mood to let it be ruined by Katy Perry bursting through his speakers singing about sex and things like that and it made Tina happy, and even though he wouldn’t admit it, he couldn’t help singing along. He was just into good of a mood not to sing along with whatever was play, which included a horrible rendition of “I Kissed a Girl”.
Pulling up outside of the large mall, Tina leaned to the side and planted a kiss on his cheek. “Have fun! And don’t do anything I wouldn’t do.” Tina said, grabbing her bag as she hopped out of the car.
“Oh come on, I want at least a good night kiss.” Mike moan as Tina laughed and waved him off. With a grin, he drove off, trying not to break many speed limits, but he couldn’t help it, he was excited.
The car didn’t even come to a stop in front of the house before, the door swung open and a figure was darting across the yard. Leaning over, Mike opened the car door and before he could even pull back into his seat the figure had dove into the car and captured his lips. A smile spread across his lips as he allowed himself to wrap his arms around the figure to prevent himself from melting into the seat.
Pulling back, Mike let out a pleasant sigh. “So does that mean you missed me as much as I missed you?” Mike asked with a smile only to be greeted with another kiss, this time more chaste.
“Does that answer your question?” Matt asked, raising his eyebrows questioningly. “So, what do you want to do tonight?”
Mike smiles proudly. “I already have plans!”
The restaurant is a lot nicer than Mike expected. Sure Puck had said it was a nice restaurant, but this is the guy who thinks doing it in public bathrooms is fine too. And shit if he had ever seen food that cost that much, there went all his money from camp. But across from him Matt was grinning at him and if that wasn’t worth it than Mike didn’t know what was, especially after a month apart, and that felt like forever to Mike.
“So everyone thinks you’re on a date with Tina right now?” Matt laughed as he cut into his prime rib, “While she’s really just at the movies.”
Mike nodded as he took a bite of his steak. “Well it’s doing the job of getting Artie jealous, and it’s not like they know we’re dating. It’s win/win for all of us.”
Matt raised his eyebrows. “My boyfriend is dating another woman, how is that win/win for me?”
Mike laughed and tossed one of his fries at Matt, “Because it was your brilliant idea. And it’s not like it’s forever, just long enough to make him suffer.”
“How are you even pulling this off, I figured everyone would think you were too gay to be with a girl?” Matt teased tossing the fry back at Mike.
Mike scoffed. “I’ll have you know I’m very butch.”
“Yeah, says the guy who refused to go in the rain because he was afraid of messing up his shoes-“
“Anyways,” Mike interrupted. “Everyone has been so focused on Puck and his mood swings lately that nobody has really paid attention anywhere else.” Mike paused, eyes going wide. “Wait; is that Puck at that table over there?” Mike whispered, leaning down trying to get a better look.
Matt slowly turned, and sure enough Puck was seated one of the tables near the front. However, Puck didn’t seem like how he remembered him. Matt remembered Puck as a loud mouth that would have already had his hand up his date’s dress not the guy who was sitting at the table not talking, but clearly listening to what his date had to say. In all the time Matt had known Puck, and it had been awhile, he had never seen Puck so intrigued and listening. “Who’s the girl he’s sitting with?” Matt asked, not recognizing the petite blonde, at least not from this angle.
“That’s not a girl.” Mike said, trying to contain his laughter, “That’s Sam.”
“Sam?” Matt said whipping his head around. “As in my new replacement?”
Instead of a response Matt got a swift kick to the shins under the table. “Well, seeing as I’m not the one here on a date with him, I don’t think he’s your replacement.” Mike tilted his head, trying to get a better look at the two. “Do you think it’s a date?”
As soon as the words feel from his lips, the two were greeted to the sight of Sam laughing as Puck handed him a rose. Smiling, Sam leaned across the table to plant a kiss on Puck’s check. Matt and Mike both stared, expecting Puck to punch him or at least glare at Sam but instead Puck just smiled and said something that made Sam start laughing again.
The two just stared at each other until Matt broke the silence, “So, I guess that means he’s not my replacement. I’ve never made Puck smile like that.”
“And you never will. You’re mine.” Mike said, leaning across the table to steal a quick kiss.
