Actually, these aren't so much first sentences, as a random sentence from either an unpublished scene, or simply the first sentence of the plotbunny.
BigBang:
"Well then," Lin flashed his self-assured grin, "sounds like we're highjacking the Orient Express."
Sadly, this scene got cut. But I just might use it in another story within the same 'verse. \(^0^)/
Neo-Xerxes fic*:
Van weighed his next words with great care. "If you only met a couple of Ishvalan guards in the ruins, then you've never seen the rebuilt city proper: a vast, tiered network of subterranean architecture."
FMA à la Jane Austen**:
Miss Rockbell surmised that, being the third of four sons, Mr. Edward Elric didn't get all that many chances to voice his proper opinion. It might certainly explain a few of the more outstanding quirks she'd noticed in his social behaviour, if she dare say so.
*Also known as help_japan fic for ELD, which was been lying inactive on harddrive for like a year? Looking back at the actual prompt, it doesn't even match. ^^;;;;
**A.k.a. 'Plotbunny of Doom'. Features the mysteries and tragedy surrounding the peculiar yet well-to-do Elric family. (I'm taking the Elric surname, because 'Hohenheim' as family name just doesn't fit in the Regency setting, imo.) Stars Hoho and all his sons (= liberal interpretation from both animes + manga)
