That reminds me of an old joke.

The new hire was told by the boss to make a flow and employee assignment chart.

She worked on it for a week; multi-color, neat lines, little stick-figures... the works.

At the staff meeting, the boss got it out, put it up on the wall and drew everyone's attention to it.

He said,
"Now this is how this company will be run. All decisions will go through me!"

And with that, he took the chart down, tore it in half and said, "Any questions?"

If you go through my LJ, I'm sure you'll find that what I do is create a to do list for my week that's pretty inclusive (laundry and financial stuff that have to be taken care of, appointments, and all that other personal life stuff in addition to writing), then i do daily to do lists based on what i need to do for the week. the list pretty much guides my day. I also use these planners by Burde that have vertical spaces for each day (versus the usual horizontal; you can pick them up at some B&N's) where I list my to do lists and make sure to cross everything off. I also track my word counts and revisions and subs in them. They've really helped me get on track: when I started a few years back, I was lucky to write a couple hundred words one day a week; now I write/revise almost every day and get in a good 5-10k per week. Plus I get all my other stuff done because the to do list and planner have helped me set up a routine.
