Eames sits in his room, debating on what he should write. He's had time to read through the journal posts - well, skim through them. He wants to test the system out for himself, but at the same time he doesn't want to reveal anything about himself too much.

So, setting quill to journal page, he begins to write in flowing, mostly-legible cursive ( Read more... )

[Alex has been paying attention to the journals when it became clear that a good sized batch of arrivals had come in. He hadn't necessarily expected a post by Eames so quickly, but the fact that he was asking questions was a good sign.]

I wondered the same thing, to be honest .. took a while to get an answer, but I'm happy to teach the trick along.

[And showing is far easier than explaining. Alex picked it up the same way from Nieta and has little doubt that Eames can pick it up from him.]

I would think sealing it to yourself would be the same way, if you really wanted .. Just don't leave your journal laying around where someone can pick it up.

[ Eames realized the things could do video, but he was leery of doing it. Bad enough that the thing signed his name for him.

Still, since Alex was kind enough to show him the way to lock, he does video back. Alex may note that Eames is already dressing for the period. And letting his stubble grow a bit. ]

Archaic method, but better than nothing. Thank you, darling.

...Though I gather from your tone that it can be broken. [ And now Eames wants to figure that out. ] Which means locking to myself, even, isn't the safest method.

So the request for non magical paper still stands...

[Alex can't help and makes no effort to hide the curl of his lips as Eames' image fills his page. The man was wasting no time in getting right into the flow of this place. Not that Alex could much complain in the tunic/corset and breeches he's chosen to wear for the day.]

It seems to work well enough and so far as I've been told, there is no way for someone else to break the seal to someone else. I've not tried to seal my own posts within it at any point, so I'm uncertain as to how well that would work.

Perhaps trial and error, with something you're not particularly concerned about posting should it not work. Not sure if you want to risk it, really ..

[He pauses for a moment and looks contemplative for a moment. He leans away from the journal, disappearing for a moment, and then reappears, holding up something that looks rather familiar. As a matter of fact, it's an exact replica of the journal he's talking to you with right now, Eames. Save for one thing .. there is no name on this journal he's holding ( ... )

[ For Eames it was practically a necessity; the quicker he can blend in with the folk of the place, the quicker he can get about investigating and snooping. Plus, the clothes aren't that bad. They're almost liberating in an odd way. ]

Locks are always meant to be broken, Alex. [ His tone is playful, but holds an undercurrent of seriousness. Even the locks in Eames' own head could be picked, if not easily. ] So I'd rather like to know how the ones I'm using could be broken, even if I must do it.

[ When Alex moves out of frame Eames waits patiently, and then his eyes widen ever so fractionally when Alex explains what it is.

That could be a great advantage here, an unnamed journal. Also a great risk, if it goes against rules. ]

If you're really willing to part with it, I'll take it... but you don't have to give it to me, if you don't want.

[ Eames wants it badly, but he can't believe Alex would give it up. ]

If the pages tear, perhaps you'd be willing to part with a few?

[ Eames could put himself at an advantage here if he wanted, he knows. But he's also planning on figuring out how to break the locking method.

So he doesn't see much advantage in holding out. ]

I have received an answer, actually, in the positive. But I'll either need your name or to meet you in person to show you.

[Megamind's script is scrawling black lines.]

Person, preferably - I'd very much like to see how this is done.

[Not that he minds giving his name - at all - but he does so want to see it for himself.]

[ Good lord, that accent. ]

That would be exactly what I'm looking for. How exactly could you assist me?

[If you get within ten feet of him, his accent would be the least of your worries. He smells like a 1700's seaman too. ]

Well... I have it. The paper I mean. That you could use?

[Clearly there was something here the captain wasn't getting.]

[ Eames is used to a level of cleanliness that they hadn't achieved in the 1700's. (He's even still keeping it up despite freezing water.) ]

And you're just willing to give it up?

[ If there's plain paper available that Eames doesn't know about, now is the time to tell him... ]

Yes, and that could arguably be the paper that we're using right now.
