Title: Making it Right
Rating: PG
Pairing: Yoochun/OFC (Yeah, you read that right... O_O)
Genre: Ummm.... stuff. *nods*
Summary: One royal screw-up, a death threat, and some Jiji snuggling. Plus Jae's kimchi jjigae.
Notes: As you may already be able to tell by the pairing alone, this is NOT my typical kind of fic. But I had this scene playing in my head for WEEKS, and I finally had to write it down just to get it out of my brain. Honestly, it's just a very small scene in a much larger universe that I don't know I'll ever write. It's all in my head, though. Aaaaaanyway, some explanation--

A bit of a return to my fan-fic roots, i.e. an OFC being paired with a canon character (or real person...). Now, before everyone starts shouting "Mary Sue!" and "Shameless author insertion!!", I assure you that it is not. Well, okay, I suppose I'll have to leave the Mary Sue call up to you guys, but I like to think she's a pretty unique, fully fleshed-out character capable of standing on her. And Devyn is way cooler than I could ever hope to be, so banish the whole 'author insertion' thought completely. XD

Probably not going to crosspost this anywhere, just leave it here in my journal for the lovely people who have friended me. I know I haven't friended all of you back, but, well, there are quite a lot of you at this point, and my f-list would implode. Plus, considering how often I've been even checking LJ lately... (ohmygoshnotatallI'msuchabadauthor~~!!!) Yeah.

So anyway, read and (hopefully) enjoy. Let me know what you think (please please, pretty please with a bowl of JaeJae's jjigae?? *insert Min's puppy eyes*) because I am strangely insecure about venturing out of familiar slashy territory. >_> (Not that I have completely. There's plenty of slashiness in this universe, just not in this scene, because, well... It's quite complicated actually... XD)
Warnings/Disclaimers: Fairly dialogue-heavy. Title sounds WAY more serious than the fic actually is. And some people have been twisted a bit to suit the storyline in my head. I don't claim to know the types of girls Chun's actually dated before, no matter what the fic says. And I sincerely doubt his mother is anything like I portray her. In fact, from what I've seen she seems the exact opposite, and, well... It's only fiction, people! :/

Making it Right

Devyn storms into the apartment and points an accusing finger at Jaejoong. "I'm going to kill your best friend."

Technically, Jaejoong has five best friends. Well, they'd started as a group of five. Just the boys at first. Then there'd been the falling out that had reduced them to three and two; the addition of Devyn - the only girl - took them to four and two. When the two had reached out to Jaejoong in hopes of reconciliation, he'd started tentatively counting five best friends in his head. They'd been in the process of talking through said reconciliation when Devyn had barged in.

Of the five best friends, Jaejoong had always been just a bit closer to Yoochun. They counted each other as long lost brothers, their thoughts and feelings tended to be so similar. Devyn had an equivalent with her female best friend, and they called each other "brain twins." Jaejoong generally assumes, in instances like this, it's Yoochun that Devyn is referring to. The fact that Yoochun and Devyn have been dating for nearly six months helps the assumption. "You're not going to kill Chunnie."

"Oh, really?" He raises a single eyebrow at her, and she crumbles. "Okay, fine. Fine. But I really hate him right now," she grumbles, tucking her auburn bangs behind her heavily-pierced ear.

Jaejoong rolls his dark eyes at her dramatic. "You don't hate him either."

"Leave me some of my frustrated delusions, dammit!" she shouts over her shoulder as she stomps down the hall towards the bathroom, her feet making very satisfied thuds on the hardwood.

Devyn has a habit of taking long, scalding hot showers when upset. More often than not, she uses Jaejoong's bathroom for these showers. She's lucky he was accustomed to living with sisters, really. "Why don't you ever use your own shower when you're in this kind of mood?"

She turns in the doorway, shooting him a look that tells him quite clearly what she thinks of his intelligence for asking that question. "Because, dear JaeJae, I don't have a shower. I have a hose attached to a sink. Not exactly conducive to wallowing."

He grants her that point, at least. "Fine, whatever. You still have clothes in the guest bedroom if you want them. And how much of my hot water can I expect you to use tonight?"

She takes a moment to replay the situation that had pissed her off so badly in the first place. When she pictures the scene from earlier in the evening, she scowls. "All of it."

"All of it?" Jaejoong blinks, unable to remember the last time she'd been at an all-the-hot-water level. "In the building?"

"Yes," she states decisively with an emphatic nod.

"How do you plan on doing that?" Jaejoong's not trying to antagonize her, honestly. But he lives in an apartment building with state-of-the-art tank-less electric water heaters. He's honestly curious how this "all of it" plan of hers is going to work.

"Don't question my methods, mister man." And with that statement, Devyn shuts the bathroom door in Jaejoong's face with a quiet but final click.

When Jaejoong gets back to the living room, both Yunho and Changmin stare at him expectantly. "Is she always like that?" Changmin asks, too impatient to wait for Jaejoong to volunteer the information.

"And are we going to be down one member before we even officially reunite?" Yunho adds, his obvious amusement crinkling lines at the corners of his eyes.

Jaejoong waves a dismissive hand as he reclaims his seat on the wide leather couch. "She won't kill him. She probably won't even hurt him too badly. Definitely nothing permanent in any case." He grins to show that he's clearly joking, and the other two laugh lightly. "I do wonder what the idiot did to piss her off, though. I've never seen her in a mood like that before."

"So it's definitely Chun's fault?" Yunho questions. They know Yoochun's history with girls. This one seems different to the spoiled princesses he usually dates, but they wouldn't be surprised if the over-reacting drama queen came out of her at some point.

Jaejoong shakes his head to rid them of the idea. "Dev's pretty chill, really. She doesn't get upset very easily and never over silly little things. If she's that angry, he definitely did something."

As if on cue, Jaejoong's front door opens again, and Yoochun rushes into the room. He fixes his gaze on Jaejoong, barely noticing his two former friends in the room. "Did Devyn come here? She's not answering my calls, and this is the first place I could think she'd come to."

"In the shower," Jaejoong replies simply.

Yoochun cringes. "What's the damage?"

"All of it."

Visibly paling, Yoochun slumps down into the nearest chair. "All of it?" he repeats faintly. He drops his head into his hands and sighs. "I cannot believe how badly I screwed this up," he mutters.

"You were just supposed to be having dinner with Hwannie and your mom. What in the world happened?" Jaejoong questions him.

"I left them alone together," Yoochun admits, shame coloring his tone.

"Dev and your mom? Oh, Chunnie…" Jaejoong sighs. Even Changmin and Yunho wince, knowing how nearly-catty Chun's over-protective mother can be to Yoochun's new girlfriends. In the past, they usually celebrated the fact. If Devyn is as different for him as Jaejoong claims, though, they feel bad for the poor girl.

Yoochun deflates, if possible, even more. "Yeah. Hwan filled me in on the details over the phone while I was driving over. Not good. I may have to stay with you or Su for a while, just to avoid cursing Mom into next week. Some of the things she said…"

"You may have to head to Su's for tonight," Jaejoong replies. "I get the feeling that, after using all my hot water, Dev's going to steal Jiji and lock herself in the guest room."

"Why would she take your cat?" Changmin grouses, rubbing at the stinging scratches on his hand from when he'd first attempted to greet Jiji when they'd first arrived at the apartment. "That animal's a menace."

"He's not a menace!" Jaejoong retorts to defend his precious pet. "He's just… a bit surly. Kind of like you, Changminnie."

Yoochun looks up and grins slightly, finally acknowledging the presence of the other two people in the room. "Jiji loves Devyn. He's never so much as hissed at her. When Dev's upset, she'll come over here, take a long hot shower, then grab Jiji for some cuddling."

"And that doesn’t bother you, your girlfriend showering and hanging out at some other guy's apartment?" Yunho asks. Most people in the industry knew the two were dating, but almost no one outside the JYJ inner circle could get any real insight into the relationship. Yunho just hopes Yoochun still trusts them enough to include them in that circle.

Yoochun just dismisses the question with a wave of his hand. "We were all friends for months before the two of us started dating, though Jae was the first to get close with her. You know how he is with people. It's been her ritual ever since then, and I can't really expect her to stop it just because she's my girlfriend now. Especially if I'm the one upsetting her. She needs someone to talk to then," he sighs.

Just as he finishes his explanation, a door opens down the hall, and Devyn pads out in bare feet. She'd twisted her hair up into a messy knot at the back of her head, but a few still-damp tendrils escaped to fall around her face. Her nice-dinner clothes were exchanged for light gray, capri-length yoga pants and an oversized black hoodie. Jiji lays snuggled contentedly in her arms. She stops walking to glare at Yoochun when she spots him. "You're an ass," she states.

Yoochun hangs his head again as the other three stifle their laughter. "Well if nothing else," Changmin leans over and mutters to Yunho, "at least we know she doesn't play mind games with him. No guesswork necessary there." Yunho nods his agreement, and they both turn their attention back to the drama.

Before Yoochun can even attempt a defense, though, the front door opens yet again. They hear Junsu before they see him. "What'd I miss?" he calls from the entry hall.

Devyn's fierce scowl turn into a grin as Junsu enters the room. "Susu!" she exclaims, transferring Jiji's weight to one arm so she can hug him loosely with the other.

"Kenzie!" Junsu returns as he hugs her back. "You're holding Jiji. Dinner didn't go well?" Yoochun slouches even further in his chair.

Jaejoong leans over to answer Yunho and Changmin's confused looks as Devyn fills Junsu in. "Devyn's middle name is Mackenzie. Su started calling her that instead, and now he's the only one allowed to. I'll just let you know now, they're strange kids together."

They add this to the growing list of things they've learned about the girl in the last hour. And by the time she's done explaining the disastrous dinner to Junsu, he's scowling just as much as her. They both turn their glares on Yoochun, who shrinks in his seat a little more. "I'm sorry, okay?" he explodes before they can say anything. "I screwed up."

"Gee, you think?" Junsu retorts. Both Yunho and Changmin stare at him in surprise. Junsu had never been big on sarcasm before the split. Most of the time, he hadn't even seemed to get Changmin's especially dry form of it. Now it drips from his tone like he'd been speaking it since birth. Or at least long enough that the other three are completely unfazed by it.

Yoochun sighs. "I just didn't expect… I explained to her last week when we suggested dinner how different Devyn is to me. I pointed out that she even has your and Jae's approval, that we were friends long before anything else. Mom seemed to understand all that. She even seemed excited. I just… I don't know."

Dropping the glare, Devyn squeezes into the space next to Yoochun in the oversized plush chair. "Did you warn her I'm American?" she asks quietly. Yoochun looks at her with wide eyes. "Oh, don't look so shocked. I was a fan first, remember? And I heard all the stories you've told on different shows about your time in the U.S. If she had no advance warning and I just walked in like that… Well, I'm sure she was shocked."

"It shouldn't matter!" Yoochun nearly shouts.

"No, it shouldn't," she agrees. "But sometimes, to some people, it still does anyway. I talk to my friends about my Korean boyfriend in a public place, and the Koreans around us start shooting us scandalized looks like I couldn't possibly be with you for anything good. It's ridiculous, but it's definitely very real."

Yunho lends his support to Devyn's statements. "My sister thought about dating an American guy a while ago. Last year, I think. My parents found out and got so upset that Jihye stopped talking to him before they even had their first date."

They all sit quietly for a few moments, processing the information, until Jaejoong shakes his head and stands from the couch abruptly. "Okay, enough of this depressing stuff. I'm gonna go make some dinner."

Changmin almost visibly brightens, sitting up straighter and turning wide eyes on Jaejoong. "Kimchi jjigae?"

"And the glutton returns," Jaejoong laughs fondly in response. "Guess I'll have to get used to buying for a group again." Changmin doesn't bother to reply, keeping his food-induced puppy-dog eyes fixed on Jaejoong. "Yes, yes, Changminnie, I will make jjigae."

Looking incredibly pleased with himself, Changmin settles back into the couch. Everyone else laughs as Jaejoong just rolls his eyes and continues on towards the kitchen. Devyn lays her head on Yoochun's shoulder, he wraps an arm around her waist, and everything is right with their world again.
