Wow. What a gorgeous episode! Like the rest of Revenge fans, it's the one I've been anticipating since the Pilot, and it certainly didn't disappoint. The cast have been shooting crazy long hours to make it great, while the producers also worked weekends & nights, and God, did it show. It's been killing me not to be able to sit down & write up my ( Read more... )

omg, just the fact that you managed to untangle everything enough to write this post makes you amazing. I basically spent the ep going OMFG OMFG OMFG and I have no idea what happened, my strategy is just to wait and see. I'm really suspicious about the Sensei right now, since his getaway car was so very convenient ( ... )

HEE, thank you so much! I feared no one would want to read such an elephant of an entry despite my efforts.

Tbh, I was the same as you on my first and second watchalongs - brain in overdrive and feelings all over the place. :D I was hardly capable of a coherent tweet, let alone an actual post! They meant business when they said the episode would be epic, yes, they did.

Anyway, only after watching a couple more times did I attempt to sort my thoughts out. This was very fun to write, but I feel the end result is NOT the ~sole definitive theory I was initially aiming for, lol.

... which I actually kind of love. Keeps me on my toes!

I'm really suspicious about the Sensei right now, since his getaway car was so very convenient.

Right? I'm fascinated that we couldn't read whether Fauxmanda knew him or not from that interaction. WHAT TEASES.

Because I genuinely do think Emily is ( ... )

Tl;dr I'm glad someone else doesn't actively dislike Fauxmanda!

I've been annoyed at her since she's been a loose cannon about town, but never disliked her. She's a strong girl who's had a lot thrown at her in life, and having some awareness that she is being kept in the dark is bound to generate resentment in anybody. She is impulsive, in contrast to Emily planning everything out, and that's bound to create friction.

I was also beyond surprised that Emily left Daniel alone on the beach knowing that Tyler might be paying the party a visit

JESUS FOR REAL

HEE. "OUR sister" would be taking it a bit too far in that scene - don't forget that Dan didn't know Em's identity yet I was actually thinking of it as a reference that with the engagement, she is one step closer to being Charlotte's sister in law- and I know plenty of people who have started referring to their fiance and family as in laws and their spouse before the wedding actually happened. So claiming Charlotte as a sister would show how invested she is in the Graysons- not ( ... )

Yeah, Emily's biggest problem with her is her impulsiveness and fickleness, but she tends to go about dealing with these problems the wrong way. Em treated Fauxmanda like the rest of her targets while at the same time taking her loyalty to Em (and by extension, her plans) for granted. She actually seemed a bit taken aback when it ended up being only applicable as long as Fauxmanda believed that Emily returned the favour! HEH. I'm interested as to where they'll be taking their relationship next.

I was actually thinking of it as a reference that with the engagement, she is one step closer to being Charlotte's sister in law-

Ooh, I hear where you're coming from! I agree that referring to Charlotte as her sister while showing concern for her would have helped matters (& would have been a witty nod to the fact that she actually is). I mean, the pills were out at that point since Em didn't know yet, but the girl DID just find out the ( ... )

Re: Theorizing: I agree that Nolan and Takeda probably have a connection going back much longer than we’ve previously been shown. I’m pretty sure that Nolan is the one who called him back right now in an attempt to stop the engagement.

I’m less sure if they’re the ones who are responsible for Tyler's death. It’s definitely possible, but part of me has a hard time seeing Nolan condoning murder, even Tyler’s murder. Of course, it’s also possible that Nolan called Takeda in because he needed help, and then TAKEDA arranged for the murder without Nolan’s approval (or even knowledge). That would make sense, since no one is ever quite on the EXACT same page on this show…

Oooor it could be someone completely different. Really I have no idea!

He wants the best for her, always and forever, but she had already accepted the fact that she can't have that if she wants to avenge her father. The way he says, "Fall in love" & "Emily..." in particular? BE STILL MY HEART. I also love how he just can't keep insisting after her, "Please" because he ( ... )

Yeah, based on what we've seen of Nolan, it's not the most likely scenario in the world. I mean, he didn't condone Fauxmanda killing someone to protect Emily, however, it's easy to judge from the sidelines, so being in a similarly impossible position, would he have killed for Emily? We just don't know. Tyler was a loose cannon on a vengeful tear with intel on all Emily's past & future targets, & Nolan probably figured Emily's money wouldn't be enough to shut him up, which probably resulted in his involving Takeda. That said, it is possible that Takeda told him something along the lines of, "Don't worry, I'll take care of Tyler" (the man of few words that he is), and Nolan didn't know just what he meant by that until he saw Ty's lifeless body on the beach.

Oooor ( ... )

IA, it's all Gabe & Em's fault for being so stunning at this.

TRUTH. I'm one of those people for whom actor chemistry is super important for my ships, and esp. the way characters look at each other. And both of them, with the eyes, all the time (and esp. that scene). The way they are always glancing at each other, the fact that sometimes she softens up around him, the way he looks at her with fascination and awe...IT'S ALL THEIR FAULT.

. I'm glad this show makes an effort to go beyond the "they're both single; so they should hook up next!" principle of pairing the characters together.
Yeees. They take the idea of the soap opera, with all its many pairings, and they make it believable. These writers really, really know what they're doing. LOVE THEM.

YES, THIS IS ONE OF THE 99 REASONS I OTP IT. All their intense eye contact always makes my heart skip a beat, and the stolen glances across the room are the best. It's like they don't even need words to communicate, I'm pretty sure they could maintain an entire conversation with their eyes & understand each other perfectly. And the way he looks at her, like she's EVERYTHING to him, I cannot. Bless Gabe & Emily for having all that chemistry!

Also, I randomly re-watched the scene where Nolan admits to having bugged Emily's place, and her reaction to it seems to be such a meaningful contrast to the more common angry response. It's still very early into their partnership, yet she turns around & is close to tears because she can't believe HE would do that to her. Then she turns around 100% composed and over it because he has a point.

Wow long post. I haven't finished reading it but on the whodoneit angle. I loved this episode. My favorite so far and I love how we are left to examine if what we saw was what truly happened or if our eyes are deceiving us. I think it could have been sensei. He conveniently was ready to intercept fake amanda so he could have retrieved the picture and killed tyler (since he already knew of his plan when he gave real amanda her stuff back.) He is trying to cover her tracks as he sees it's all getting out of control. I don't think it's daniel because that would be too easy. I think what they would try to do is to get us to believe it was daniel so we don't realize the person was right in front of us. Plus, I don't see daniel as the character who would shoot him just after receiving the "truth." I do agree that it's fake amanda's blood on his shirt to point at a second involvement of fake amanda to throw us off the tracks but she says that she didn't to jack and I believe her. If she shot him she would have just admitted it to jack and he ( ... )

Okay, for some reason, LJ actively fails to send me notifications about replies to this post. :| This is very inconvenient.

Wow long post. I haven't finished reading it...

HEH, I don't even know how Revenge always gives me so many feelings. I sit down to write a quick summary of my thoughts, and then this happens. Thank you for reading at all & replying! :D

This episode is definitely their best one yet, which pleases me because the show seems to be continuously raising the bar in terms of quality. Whenever you think it's as good as it gets, they come up with an episode like this which isn't a (mid-season) premiere, nor a finale. I haven't had this much fun trying to work out a murder mystery in a long while! Tbh, I'm usually #Team Wait & See, but this one looked too deliciously twisted to remain on the sidelines.

I really like this theory #3, but I like theory #2's idea that the blood is Tyler's on Daniel's shirt, so I'd like to combine the two (though really I have no idea who the real shooter it).

Yes, if the blood on Dan's shirt is Tyler's, that would be an even better way of throwing us off scent if they're going to go out of their way to make us think Daniel did it! This is also VERY bad news for him in terms of proving his innocence.

Thank you for validating my theory! Actually, it was kind of inspired by the Rebekah/Elena conversation you brought up - I figured, maybe Tyler realised the longer version is more emotionally satisfying as well, plus he wouldn't have to go down for murder since Emily would be only too willing to come clean about his return to everyone.

Nolan doesn't realize the Sensei and him are not on the same page.

Yeah, it's very plausible that Nolan wasn't informed about the actual murder part of the plan, which would mean the Sensei went self-righteously rogue on him. Even better, I don't want my bb Nolan to ( ... )

Make a real case was it Jack looming over the body or Daniel, and make Emily sort of choose who she standsby and if she does it as part of a plan or a testimony of love aka the J/E/D love triangle really getting more underway.

Jack is definitely going down as a suspect due to his car being parked nearby, so you have a point - they definitely might use this to explore the triangle further! With Emily put under the pressure of choosing which one of them to believe & support. SHE's in the dark for once, so the tables have definitely turned! Love it.

Plus, I think Tyler wants to be vindicated in the eyes of Daniel, IMO, because I can't help but believe Tyler is a bit in love of Daniel and he wants to prove Emily is the monster to Daniel, not him.

Great observation, especially given the way he said, "She's not worth it, Danny." Definitely reminded me of their previous face to face at the poolhouse where Tyler wanted Dan to run away with him.

If the sensei did it or had someone do it, Nolan probably will; especially if Jack is a suspect ( ... )
