Supposed to be working on my ambiguous term paper this weekend, but it's slowly making me lose my will to live, and then there's the fact that I'm having trouble focusing due to all the feelings my show's return gave me this week. Can I major in Revenge instead?
NOLAN & EMILY WERE PERFECT IN THIS EPISODE.
Just look at him randomly coming by as he does & offering an olive branch in the most flawless way:
"Look, when was the last time you ate? Or slept, or that matter?"
NOLAN'S PRIORITIES IN LIFE:
1. Emily's well-being.
2. Everything else.
ALL THE FEELINGS, YOU GUYS. She is too preoccupied, starved and sleep deprived to even attempt a warm welcome, and he's the only person who cares what's going on with her all the time & wants to make sure she eats. I've no idea what a "croissandwich" even was before this scene, ngl, and even though it apparently actually exists, it's still SUCH a Nolan choice of food because of the name, lol. HER HILARIOUS LACK OF ENTHUSIASM IS OBVS JUST AN ACT, we all know how much it means for her to have him in her life.
Also, you can't see it in the gif, but the HD version reveals that the following, and it is the best:
THE SWEETERY HE WENT TO FOR HER IS ACTUALLY CALLED 'SWEET NOTHING', GUYS.
Just. What are you doing to my shipper emotions, show?? Whoever thought of this is my new favourite.
#enable me some more why don't you
FYI Yahoo!answers always knows best:
I second your emotion, Asker. This is ACCURATE.
Nolan makes a good point at the table about Fauxmanda getting arrested meaning it'll be all over for Emily. Starting with her prints being processed & ending with her inability to sport a poker face when push comes to shove. I still think Takeda is planning on using Fauxmanda to ensure the Grayson downfall given that Emily isn't exactly very keen on his plan of framing Daniel for murder. Besides, she's about to become a suspect herself with the way Victoria is scouting for viable suspects. Tbh, the only way I see this situation resolving in favour in Daniel's, Jack's AND Emily's favour is if Emily throws Takeda under the bus for this by telling the truth in court... just imagine the kind of an epic fallout THAT would ensue! Ofc, it's Revenge, so your guess is as good as mine here.
Also, Nolan's "Deja vu" comment on Daniel's letter to Emily swearing he's innocent = ACCURATE. This show does love its parallels and the history repeats itself moments. Though contrary to David, Daniel is no good boy he tries to come across as because he still shot an unarmed man, which no one seems to care about as long as it wasn't the killing shot. :| :| THIS FAMILY BROUGHT UP VERY TROUBLED CHILDREN.
Another favourite N/E moment from this scene was Nolan's reaction to Emily saying she lost her focus/became too emotionally involved & it wouldn't happen again:
That fond/sympathetic look he gives her, he knows she won't be able to make good on not caring.
He understands her better than she understands herself. <3
... and just when I thought this scene couldn't be more wonderful, he chooses to be all tactile on his exit:
HONESTLY, I'VE NO IDEA WHY ANYONE WOULD SHIP IT.
THERE ARE OBVS NO FEELINGS OR CHEMISTRY INVOLVED HERE AT ALL.
He double-checks she won't forget her food, & then his hand finds her shoulder b/c sometimes no concept of personal space during conversation is simply not close enough. My gorgeous OTP, how are you real.
AND THEN THEIR OTHER SCENE, OFC, where Nolan addresses his & Emily's eternal point of contention - Jack (I love how they always argue about what's best for him, Jack's one lucky guy if you squint & tilt your head to one side!) - and she says that their best bet is to find Mason. & by "find Mason" she means Nolan has to do it, and LOL HIS PERFECT DELIVERY OF, "OH GOD" as his general POV about that plan IS MY FAVOURITE:
"WHAT ARE MY LIFE CHOICES, WHY DO YOU HAVE TO MATTER TO ME SO MUCH"
aka 5 seconds in ~doubt until he agrees b/c he can't say no to her, obvs
LOL FOREVER THOUGH, I think this was one of his most elaborate reactions yet at a crazy thing she asks him to do. I will never get over how brilliant Gabriel is as Nolan, it's just not possible.
It was great to see Mason back, by the way, and witness his transition from a sleazeball back to the journalist with ~integrity which he once was. His conversation with Victoria & "don't you dare bring Amanda into it" stance definitely redeemed him a little for betraying bb!Amanda & severely impairing her ability to trust people as a result. A LITTLE.
Nolan's coy inceptioning of Mason to return to the Hamptons was awesome, but the best part was him walking off...
WEARING THESE. SO. HE DOES WHAT HE WANTS.
Also, I am very interested by what they're trying to achieve with this 'sending Jack to Montreal' storyline. Nolan & Ems are obviously sending him on a wild goose chaise to get him out of harm's way, but I feel like it wasn't such a good idea given how guilty leaving the country makes him look? Especially if he's looking for Fauxmanda, whom Victoria likes for his partner in crime a lot. What if it's used against him in court? HMM.
This decision gave us the following amazing Nolan/Jack scene, though, which was amazing:
LOL YOU TWO, MAKE OUT ALREADY.
I mean you have him babysitting your little brother, Jack, so the least you can do is give the guy a hug.
Poor bb Nolan, forever rejected in your cute lobster sweater. D: COME INTO MY LOVING ARMS.
By the way, Nolan telling Declan he was a good brother was such a nice gesture - and I liked how Declan admitted to feeling bad about what he did to Charlotte to him. Interesting shift in their dynamic where previously Nolan was nothing but a means to an end to Dec. That was pretty harsh how he came clean to a reporter about Charlotte's pill addiction and didn't even dignify her with a heads-up, and then proceeded acting like it was nbd the morning after. I mean, I'm not exactly surprised that his brother >>> everyone else to him, but the way he went about it, he totally had Charlotte's cold shoulder coming. I wonder if this, her no longer having ANYONE, is the beginning of her ultimate spiral down. Emily should just remove her from that horrible household already (I mean, Victoria gave exactly zero fs why her daughter resorted to drugs, or whether she plans on taking the entire bottle the next time or not) & school her in the sophisticated workings of revenge instead... because at this point, that would actually be getting a better deal than she has now.
Oh, right, there was also the wet!Daniel/epic beatdown storyline which I was spoiled for, but I felt like the show made it pretty clear via Victoria's "not that kind of message" phonecall that it was of her doing. NATURALLY, Emily has pictorial evidence of her exchange with her ~asset, so this should be good when push comes to shove. I have to admit, I blinked & missed Daniel being all over the news at the bar & thought wig!Emily was a flashback, lol. Pretty cool to see her in disguise like that in present time, I bet she took that wig with her to the city ~just in case~. Can't believe the guy was thick enough to tell about his entire arrangement with Victoria to a complete stranger, going all the way back to Jack's beatdown, apparently. Ngl, this scene felt very gratifying, I like when homegirl gets to have an outlet for all that anger and frustration built up inside of her:
DON'T MESS WITH EMILY THORNE'S FAKE BOYFRIENDS, BITCHES.
Also, curious about the key she casually forged before walking off like the whole thing was nbd.
There was also something about Victoria and a blast from the past, which I'm still not sure how to process. Did she actually leave at night to be with him around the end of the episode? ONCE A HARPER, ALWAYS A HARPER. I found Dominik recalling their past where she kept telling him she didn't think she could fall in love with anyone intriguing, by the way, I think finding out what happened to Victoria before meeting him will make for an interesting story.
But mostly I'm excited/anxious for whatever Gabe meant by this in one of his latest interviews: "By the end of this season, I don't think there's any going back for Nolan... [Nolan & Emily's] fates are truly entertwined at this point." I mean, there's been no going back for Nolan for a while now, this is known, but the way he says "by the end of this season" makes me think something really epic is going to happen to test their friendship & then make them come out stronger for it, which is a storyline I've been looking forward to for a while. I hope this means you'll finally indulge me, Revenge.
ETA: I love how
The Treadwell Report is an actual website & we get to read Mason's blog.
SO GOOD TO HAVE THIS SHOW BACK IN MY LIFE. \o/
I was previewing this post & was legit taken aback by "17" being the ep #, lol. But it's true, 5 more to come!
CAN'T WAIT FOR NEXT WEEK, AND THE ONE AFTER THAT, AND THE ONE AFTER THAT...
