Revenge 2x02 - "Resurrection"

Oct 12, 2012 15:41

Staying off the Interwebs until I watch the long-awaited TVD premiere, so it's the perfect time to get my Revenge thoughts in order.

I can't believe Nolan & Emily were still housemates in this episode! Emily waking up to Nolan's face was all I ever wanted, but of course, Revenge had to put a dark twist in it as Revenge does:

Poor bb Nolan just wanted to help, lol oops.
I feel so sorry for Ems for still having Victoria nightmares, though, homegirl just can't catch a break. Actually, I guess it's something that's been on & off since the third episode of S1 which started with her dreaming Victoria found out who she really is. Another curious parallel there.

It made me laugh how Nolan pointed out to Emily that she probably shouldn't be napping with the WHM still out there, especially since she never locks her doors ever. With a boxer & karate master like you for a housemate, Nolan, what could ever go wrong? ;)

I'm a bit confused on this whole, "WHM & Ems were apparently in cahoots thing", by the way. Like, were they already so in this scene, which is why Emily was so sure she wouldn't kill her:

I just love Gabe's delivery of this, love it.
This is why people should always listen to Nolan & his adorable disheveled morning hair.
If Ems contacted the "Grey-haired Mannibal Lector" somewhere between the first and the second episode, it's interesting that this was pretty much the only thing Nolan was kept out of the loop of - until the very end of the episode at that. She wants Nolan out of the house b/c... she wants a private audience with the WHM since her mother is a personal issue despite the things she already shared with N? Doesn't think Nolan would approve of her fraternizing with her father's murderer? Doesn't want to traumatise Nolan more by having his kidnapper in their house? Ems' motivations work mysterious ways, so I wonder.

Since we're already on the subject, I'll just go ahead and say that their final scene completely broke me:

- The problem is, ever since you came back, and even before that,
it's like you just expect me to be your fashionably dressed, technologically savvy sidekick.

- You're right. You should have your own life. Your own place.

Alright, we've all been thinking it, but I was so shocked Nolan actually called her out on it. I guess it slipped out in the heat of the moment because for a change, he has his own problems to take care of, and Emily does kind of lean on him more than ever before these days & just assumed he'd stay in all day to keep an eye on things. It's ironic b/c becoming Ems' full-fledged partner in crime is something he's been trying to achieve since day one, but in the light of recent events with NolCorp, it's all getting a bit too much for him.

His face when she acknowledges he's true, though. a pawn. She could have reacted like she used to, "If you can't stomach it, you're out", but she is being a friend to him stating that he does deserve better, thus putting his needs above hers. You know, just in case anyone still had doubts she genuinely considers him her bff by now.

I love how she can't help confiding in him one last time before getting her croc back on & shutting him out. It clearly burdens her that she lied to Fauxmanda about her baby not being Jack's. I actually felt like that would be the case when Ems tells Fauxmanda b/c of Emily VanCamp's amazing acting chops. Why do you guys think she lied? To leave a window open for manipulation, I suppose? If Fauxmanda believes it herself, Ems won't have any trouble playing that card with Jack when the time comes. & Nolan truly worries that she's going to be in this dark place all by herself, but Emily has already made up her mind. OMG, THE WAY HE WATCHES HER LEAVE, MY POOR HEART CANNOT TAKE THIS:

- You shouldn't be alone tonight.

It reminded me of when he told her not to do anything revengey until he gets there in the finale. He knows her judgment gets clouded when she's this upset. If it weren't for Aiden, this might have been the last time they spoke.
I'll miss Nolan & Ems sharing a house, I really will. All these scenes where Nolan was alternating the articles of clothing he was missing & Emily acting like it was nbd were PRICELESS. Domesticated!NEmily are forever my favourites. Also, when Nolan told her the naked jakuzzi interview story while standing there in SEAHORSE BOXERS, I died b/c Ems' minds totally went there for a split of a second before she changed the subject, lolol:

Very Distracting Housemate.

Also, I saw where your eyes dropped when you were about to leave, Ems. :p WHO COULD BLAME YOU, REALLY.

As much as I want to see how they will function on their own, I really hope it won't take too long for them to get back to their thick as thieves ways because they make such a good team, definitely my favourite on TV right now.

It needs to be said that I really do love this NolCorp angle they have introduced this season. Basically, Nolan has been so wrapped up in Emily's revengenda that he's been neglecting his own company, and he's about to pay the price. I LOVE when TV shows attempt to be realistic like this by introducing legit consequences of the characters' actions. Also, it gave him a reason to put on some pants & have lunch with a girl rather than the 24/7 ClamCam Monster Show marathon.

Nolan's conference call with his crack employee team was hilarious, first of all b/c they all kind of reflect him in a way??

LOL THIS ACTUALLY MAKES SENSE

The entire thing was basically non-stop awesomeness where Nolan made hilarious faces into a camera & turned out to be very bad at being a boss b/c of control issues & memory loss when it comes to his own accountant's existence:

Perfect.

Putting my shipper goggles aside for a while, I kind of like Padma & the way she challenges Nolan. It was very interesting to see that other, bossy side of Nolan with her help because of how different his interactions with her as his employee were from pretty much all the other conversations he's ever had with people on this show. He's definitely not very big on being advised by his subordinates & his primary response is to contradict everything, but Padma keeps pushing on.

Because she's the only one who truly cares for the future of NolCorp? Because she has ulterior motives? Who knows. It was certainly very suspicious how she showed up at Emily's house; she's obviously quite resourceful herself if need be.

What Nolan said to Padma at business lunch was very interesting too. Basically, his success strategy is not hiring someone who has very high qualifications for top positions b/c I think he's worried they'd edge him out as a CEO. He'd also rather go it alone than delegate, which is pretty much the opposite approach to how Emily gets things done. That's why he'd rather hire the underqualified but enthusiastic Padma as a CFO:

"I don't want a leader. I want a partner. That I can control."

THIS, on the other hand, does reflect what Emily wanted from Nolan as a partner, at least initially. Oh, how I love you, show. Can't wait to see more of Nolan in his authoritative boss mode & whether he made the right decision by hiring Padma as the NolCorp CFO. I have a feeling there may be more to her than meets the eye!

Other points of interest:

- Emily giving up her sisterly bonding moment to Fauxmanda broke my heart. The ultimate price she pays for her revenge is being doomed to watch someone else live her life - the life she would have had if she told the truth. SIGH. I guess she had to tell Charlotte that she's about to be an aunt to make her change her mind about leaving the country. It was great to hear Emily call Char "my sister", her wanting Charlotte to be on her side to the point of moving in was definitely more than just about plotting against the Graysons. :')

- Wow, getting a beating is definitely Victoria's exit strategy of choice, isn't it? First Dan in prison, now herself. The woman clearly has issues. I never expected Conrad to actually go through with it, I guess I undersestimated just how ruthless he can be! WHAT IS THIS FAMILY, I AM SO SCARRED.

- I guess I was the only one happy that the baby is Jack's? He seemed so relieved & happy about it! Kind of horrified that the show may not be above doing something to that baby just to clear the road for J/E. DNW.

- Whatever became of Ems' mother that the secret was worth killing Emily for to stop her from finding out?

THIS SHOW, YOU GUYS. IT DOES THINGS TO MY EMOTIONS, AND I LET IT.

... as always, to end on a lighter note:

LIKE. A. BOSS.
