Japan

My thoughts are with the people of Japan. A 8.9 earthquake and then a tsunami that pretty much wiped everything in its path. Of course I can relate and I'm praying for all the people who lost loved ones or that are scared right now, just how we were a little more than a year ago ( Read more... )

I didn't know that Chile was also in danger from Japan's tsunami. It's times like this when you can't help but remember that we really are all connected.

You're well inshore and out of range, I hope?

Yeah, I'm safe. I live in a part of Concepción where the wave can't reach.

Talcahuano, tho, is a seaside town, in fact one of the most important ports in Chile and it was practically wiped out by last year's tsunami. It's only 45 minutes from here. Many good friends and acquaintances live there, and they're very afraid.
Just so you have a better idea:

Wow. Thanks for the map -- I have a much better idea of where things are now. I really hope your tsunami warning comes to nothing, but I will keep your Talcahuano friends in my thoughts and prayers.

And things in Japan just keep getting worse -- the news right now is showing a massive whirlpool off the coast of Japan. I'm kinda speechless right now.

awww, pobrecitos! *huggles Chinese and Chileans* I hope things get better soon. :( My thoughts and prayers are with the Chinese and the Chileans still recovering from the earthquakes (I'm sure that even though it happened a little more than a year ago, there are still some recovering.)

*hugs* *flails to make you feel better*

The radiation leak it's so scary. I mean, natural disasters are terrible but you rebuilt and somehow you get over it in a couple of years. But radiation! That stuff gets there and it stays forever. 40 years from now, your grandkids will be sick because of it.
It still creeps me out to watch the state of Chernobyl and the nearby city TODAY. It's horrible to think that might happen to Japan.
