I am writing on the off chance you might spare a bit of advice regarding an American obtaining a PGCE. (I came from this link: http://community.livejournal.com/brits_americans/1108763.html) I would like to move to England in the near future and debating going for the PGCE now (or try applying for it now, at least) or getting my MeD from an American University. I have a BA in English but no teaching certificate. Obviously, English (High School) is what I would want to teach although I'm not sure what the demand (if any) there are for English Teachers in England. Anyway, just wanted to know your story w/ it, difficulty getting in (I'm an American although my mom is an Irish citizen and I have to ability to hold an Irish passport but haven't filled out the papers), costs, etc. If you have the time, I would really appreciate it. If not, no worries.
First of all, to teach in the UK you will need either a PGCE or teaching experience already. My understanding (although I am primary) is that there is a strong need for secondary teachers.
Your first port of call should be reading up, I reccomend the TDA website for basic information
