I had no idea what a "flash ring" was until viewing this. I like the photo. :)

i don't know if it translates well in this shot... but it's a big circular flash tube, and you stick your lens thru the middle. the light on the background is another strobe with a grid that i placed on a boom hanging above his head, out of the shot, aiming back at the cyclorama wall.
