(002) Daydreams

Dec 18, 2011 00:49

[Phone] So everyone had a similar kind of dream, hmm? And a lot of people were taken in by it. You know, some say that dreams are like a window into your mind, but it's a little hard to think of them that way when someone else is messing around with them. I hope the people talked about in the newscast are all right ( Read more... )

Using dreams like that is a low move. I mean, using loved ones? I'm lucky I decided to stand my ground on this one.

Using loved ones is something that happens all the time in movies and on TV, and it's hard to imagine it actually happening to you. It's definitely below the belt.

They can't really just all be gone like that though, can they?

I don't know. I'm still pretty new here myself, after all. Could they be gone? It's certainly possible, but whether it's true or not is something I think we'll have to wait to find out for sure.

It's fucked up, 'swhat it is.

And I doubt they're all fine and dandy. Look at all the creepy fakes runnin' around.

Well we can't know for sure until they get back and can tell us themselves, right? We'll just have to wait and see.

What if they don't get back, huh?

Then we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. Sometimes you just have to take things one at a time.

...Do you... really think they were forced into it? Maybe it wasn't their fault, right?

They probably weren't forced, but dreams are tricky places. Things that are impossible seem real, and so when a choice like that is presented by a loved one, it's easy to see why some people would believe it.

[Someone they loved?

What if he had been the one to give the horrible choice to Brother? What if their mother had? Teacher? Winry? He knows that if it were someone he really cared for, then Ed wouldn't hesitate.]

Do you think they'll come back?

I don't know. If what I hear about this place is true, they may very well be back in a few days. Then again, they might not. It's hard to say since apparently this kind of thing hasn't happened before.

There were other ways... why didn't they realize it? It... it doesn't make sense.

Most of the times when a choice like that is presented it's hard to see alternatives, especially when you're in a dream and you're not necessarily getting the whole picture anyway.

It... doesn't make sense. I don't know if it makes me selfish, but... I couldn't do that. I couldn't make that decision, even if it was a dream.

It doesn't necessarily make you selfish! Besides, even if the choices presented seem like they're the only ones, you're right, there's always other ways. You just have to look for them. Not seeing them doesn't make you stupid or a sucker, it just means you're focused on what's ahead of you, and that's not a bad thing either!

Windows into the mind is one way to look at it. Abstract and yet concrete. I'm sure the dream must have been very convincing for the missing to let their guard down like that.

It'll blow over like everything else. Just a matter of time.

With the right circumstances and the right person presenting the choice in the right way, just about anything can be extremely convincing.

It's possible! We'll have to wait and see.

Well said. My dream was hardly convincing enough to erase myself from existence, but others probably thought "things would be better if I am gone".

...Frankly, if they thought that way, I must question if that is the truth.

Well, truth may be constant, but it can always seem very different based on your perspective.
