i was reminded perfectly yesterday why i never came home for christmas whilst i was at uni *sigh*  and if i'm in any vague way planning on being at home for xmas next year, someone slap me and then preferrably give me a better offer! cos being at home is miserable, and did you all know, that I'm a very horrible person who spoils christmas for everyone? no, i hadn't realised that either, but apparently thats what my lovely mother thinks. glad to know she has all the emotional maturity of a 13 year old boy on a good day.

So, on a bright note and before I through my diary away - all the gigs of 2009:
18th Feb: Mongrel - Scala (slow start to the year due to dpt mourning :( )
22nd Feb: Peter - SBE
5th March: Helsinki @ Proud
6th March: Carl - wakefield
7th March: Carl - wakefield
8th March: Carl - stockton-on-tees
15th March: snow patrol - London O2
29th March: Peter - Troxy
5th April: DPT @ proud (yeah, it was at this point i was tempted to ask them whether they actually understood the definition of spliting up!)
9th April: Starsailor - SBE (the night I fell out of love with them; theres nothing attractive in a band trying to desparately write that one hit single just so they get chart hits again)
22nd April: Peter @ proud
15th May: as my diary reads: Peter, Shambles, LIBERTINES (plus thee unstrung and the padds) - rhythm factory
31st May (?):Drew (and Kieran) - Hideaway
6th June: Camden Rocks - Carlos, Padds, Nine Black Alps and a few others thrown in for added chaos. I came out after carl had played saying that it was the best gig i had ever been to.

and yeah, at this point of the year, i was thoroughly failing in my 'MUST SEE BANDS THAT ARE IN NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM RELATED TO PETER OR CARL', with 12/14 featuring carl, pete or drew...hmmm.  my quest did improve as the year went on though...marginally.... as long as you dont look at december...

24th - 29th June: Glastonbury!
17th June: Kasabian - Brixton (one of the most amazing and painful gigs i have ever been too.  first time i'd seen them at their own show rather than a festival and i was blown away - band on fab form, one of the most up for it crowds i've ever seen, front row, dead centre, Yogi laughing at me and my ribs were hurting for at least 10 days afterwards - i may have cracked one they were that sore! if you just changed the band, it would have been a dpt gig) And so started the kasabian obsession.
8th August: Carl - Glasgow
25th August: Pete - Torriano
26th August: Lostprophets - Wolverhampton (and so commenced the remembering how much i loved them. they fucking rock, and mosh, by god do their fans mosh.  i have never ever managed to wring sweat out of my top at a gig before this one.  ekkk, ewww and fuck me i wanted to do that again)
18th September: Carl - Paris
9th October: Maximo Park - RAH
21st October: Delays - Borderline until i got a better offer in the shape of Kasabian - Kentish town Forum
22nd October: Lostprophets - Kentish Town Forum
2nd Nov: Charity gig at Brixton featuring Kaiser Chiefs (forgot how much fun they are live), gary barlow (didnt ever think i could say i had seen him...), JDB (for miss sass), and damian rice (fucking amazing - cannonballs with no mic was particulalry stunning), and a variety of comedians
5th Nov: Shambles @ Proud (first time i'd seem them properly in fucking ages)
12th Nov: Biffy Clyro - Brixton (yeah as much as i really do want to love them, they bore me after about an hour)
13th Nov: Muse - London O2 (epic, but reminded me exactly what i loved so much about dpt, cos no matter how good the music is, and how technically well it is played, if the musicians on stage have no connection with each other, they cant connect with the crowd in the same way.  i do however highly recommend watching this video from about 1.55 in.  a) watch that pit go! and b) watch that crowd explode - thats gotta be such an amazing feeling being a musician and having a crowd react like that)
15th Nov: Kasabian - Wembley (great gig, poss most violent moshpit i've ever been in mind and some fucker stole my wallet)
20th Nov: Lostprophets - union chapel little noise session (i'd waited about 9 years for this gig and the chance to see them perform an accoustic gig and it was so worth the wait)
24th Nov: Snow Patol - RAH (great gig, so special hearing some of the older stuff again and everything rearranged and the lovely orchestra.  only downside of this gig was being sat up in the nosebleeds so i couldnt watch gary smile.  oh and i get vertigo being that high!)
11th Dec: DPT - tabernacle bar and grill (ie wanky hoxton bar) oh how i've missed my boys.  technically, this was as shit as shit ever got.  but it was so much fun.  and they looked like they enjoyed themselves, and we moshed and danced and sang our hearts out, and god i miss them.
12th Dec: Shambles - Cardiff (peter noddling and fire alarms not making for the best gig ever)
13th Dec: Shambles - Bath (in complete comparison to the night before; fuck me, this is the band i love)
17th Dec: Shambles - Manchester (average, peter consumed most of the bar! pushing car through snow at 2 am in a blizzard was slightly insane however)
18th Dec: Shambles - Glasgow (dont know wtf the band were doing, i was having too much fun trying to stay on my feet!)
19th Dec: Shambles - Birmingham (ditto above, but slightly less fun than glasgow)
28th Dec: Peter - Blues Kitchin, Camden
31st Dec: Mumford and Sons - Forum

other gigs i know i went to but clearly didnt write in diary and now cant remember when the fuck they were:
-kieran @ hideaway
-the cribs @ barfly (Oct?)
-antlered man @ barfly (Sept?)
-the invasion of @ water rats (gary's new band) 25th oct?
-padds @ dirty south
