Abe's investigation went smoothly. There were, surprisingly, no zombies, ghosts, poltergeists and other things of paranormal and questionable nature. Instead, there were whiny, easily scared newbies who kept arguing, bumping into things and shrieking in horror. There was also a lot of facepalming from the merman ( Read more... )

Hellboy is bored. With the frogs being the constant threat and their attacks so similar, even work is boring. At least there's one up-side to a new location for the Bureau: He hasn't walked these halls a thousand times...yet.
He's making his rounds and feeling like a general nuisance, not that he much cares at the moment, when he passes the lab and sees Abe and his box. This is different.
He breaks from his circuit of the hallways and enters the lab as quietly as something very large and hooved is capable of.
"Hey, whatcha got there? I might be a little off, but I'm pretty sure it's not yer birthday."

Abe quickly recognizes the voice. He brightens up and turns toward his friend. Despite how 'investigation' went, he seems to be in a good mood.

"It isn't. This is the result of me searching the old warehouses with a bunch of newbies." He grins and nods in the direction of the door. "You've probably seen the other results when passing the medical wing."

The merman's attention switches to the box. A lot of dust was shaken off it during the carrying process, but a lot still remains. That becomes obvious when Abe pokes the wrapping and creates a small dust cloud.

"Want to see what's inside? It seemed a little suspicious."

If Hellboy removes the wrapping, he'll find a large, metal and somewhat rusted box. It's old, at least fifty years old. Also, there's a symbol imprinted into it - it almost rubbed off in time, but both friends will recognize it easily. It's a swastika. The Nazi symbol.

"Sheesh. Yeah. Do they really think they're helpin' anything by sendin' a bunch of untrained kids into the field?" To HB, guys in their twenty's with police experience can still count as 'untrained' and as 'kids'. No offense intended, of course, he just hates seeing the rookies get hurt because of inexperience. And he doesn't much like working with them.

"Sure, lets see what sort of prize you guys turned up. Maybe it's a snazzy new radio." He takes the box in his right hand and pulls away the dusty wrappings with his left. The emblem has the demon narrowing his eyes immediately. "Nah...just a 'little fascist's first jewelry box'. Crap. And I was hopin' it'd play mp3s, too..."

Abe doesn't argue. He assumes that this investigation was training, but if that's the case... Well, kids get an F. You have to be pretty bad at your job if you get owned by an old dusty box ( ... )
