My sleep rhythms are messed up. I haven’t been able to go to sleep before 10:00 this week, and more likely it is 11:00 or midnight before I finally succumb to peace. My alarm is still going off at 5:30, though on Tuesday and yesterday I was able to sleep until 7:00 because when I work from home, I don’t have to get up and get moving. I can’t decide ( Read more... )

I am going through the same pattern of sleep-too-late. In my case, I believe perimenopause may be the culprit.

I am always in awe of how much reading you accomplish. I believe I've successfully read five or fewer books in the last five years.

I feel like I was born with a book in my hands :) I read compulsively and I love it because the kids want to read, too! When I pick up my book, they ask for stories and love the words on the page. They'll being me books to read them, too. It's fabulous.

In case you do audiobooks, I adored Emma Donoghue's lesbian romance Landing! Small-town Canadian museum director and older Dubliner flight attendant trying to make it work. Totally ate up my commuting and walking hours. :)

I don't usually, but my commute is about to get longer! I might have more car time soon! I can't do audio books when I'm working because I get too caught up in one thing or the other and I'm either listening too intently to the book that I forget to work or work too intently to listen to the book!

My biggest shelf on Goodreads is called "abandoned." I start way more books than I finish, because I don't want to waste time on finishing books I don't like--there are way too many books in the world. :D

Agreed! I don't have many that I've set aside. Two in the last year, though - that's a record for me!

What time are you turning off the light? If you went to bed earlier would you fall asleep earlier or you'd have insomnia until 10 or 11?

Are there any changes in your technology use (blue light exposure), etc. or caffeine habits?

I keep going to bed at 10:30 or 11pm and waking at 6, but that's because I get drawn into internet-land.

I did mess up and have half-caff before bed twice this week thinking it would be ok.... and I'm wondering if my extra energy that I feel is what I used to channel into hours of grad school after the kids went to bed. I need to find a new outlet, maybe!

I try not to use tech before bed, but when I can't sleep and the lights are off, I reach for my phone. I'm going to get a little book light for my kindle today and try to cut out the back-lit screen when I can't sleep.

I hate putting books down too. It's so hard to let it go when you've invested so much time. The "life's too short" argument is a good one. The letter book sounds really interesting.

I hope you find some sleep.
