Clip Thief!

Apr 05, 2006 13:17

Warning to others who make Music Videos! Marie e-mailed me to tell me that this site called You Tube where people can post music videos had my Harry Potter video on it. Now the person that posted it did not claim it as their own but nor did they say where they got it or give any credit, let alone even asking for permission to post it in the first ( Read more... )

Good God...crap like this makes you want to pull everything you make off the net. *sighs* I've heard of youtube before but not seen these. So sorry Barbi...your work is outstanding and you deserve all the credit for it. Marie had posted the link for your new P&P vid and in case you hadn't been by OF to read...I thought it was outstanding!

I've seen people place their web addy across the bottom throughout the whole music vid...we might have to start doing that. Although I doubt anyone will pilfer mine *laughs* But something you should do with your own.

Yes I have tried putting off leaving a watermark on mine for as long as possible but I guess I need to come up with one and start using them. Just so maddening that I need to do this.

Thanks for the nice comments on my video! BTW I saw one of your King Arthur videos on that You Tube site also!

Greeeeeeeeet....just great. I guess I'll have to go the route of watermarking. I just found my Sean Bean wp's hotlinked on some foreign language MSN group...along with some icons. Damn hotlinkers.

That lame excuse that the clips are from someone else's movie...pfffft. Do they seriously not realize how much work goes into ripping a DVD, making the vid and so on?? Apparently not.

UGH! I used to have a HUGE problem with people hotlinking to my walls on Message Boards and mailing lists until I had my hosting company put in one of those codes that prevents it. You might want to ask them about it.

*sigh* You Tube is such a pain. I've had some serious trouble with it, too: http://di-br.livejournal.com/63829.html#cutid1

I figured the best way to try and stop it was to join it, just to let the thieves and non-crediters know that we're there and we KNOW very well what they're doing.

We vidders need to do something about You Tube... FAST!

I found one LOST video made with scenes from mine, but that's the only clip-stealing I know for sure that happened with one of my vids... But I keep watching vids there that were CLEARLY made with stolen material.

THAT was her excuse?????

"You say that my video is made from yours, but your video was made from someone else's movie."

You know, this lame excuse has been used so many times over and over that it's not even funny. *facepalm*

"By allowing people do download your videos off your site you are giving them access to such material."

Uh... NO! We're giving them access to our WORK. People steal it and use it as their material. THAT'S what's wrong!!!

"I rewatched your Pride and Prejudice video and it is edited completely differently from mine."

So... because it's edited completely differently, then it's ok????

*SIGH*

The ignorance... it burns.

Here is her latest reply:
"May I credit you then in the video's description? Honestly, I have no intention of taking credit for your work. I just enjoy editing videos and putting them to music. I uploaded it here so that I could share it with my friends, but, as you know, the site makes the videos public and I think that's where the problem is. "

Um no, the problem is you stole my hard work, re-arranged it and called it yours.

Wow, I can finally join the club here. I just found one of my vids on YouTube. No credit, of course, but at least the kid kept my end credits attached to the actual vid.

I've said it before, but I really despise all "free file hosting" sites. *sigh*

It's just so infuriating that these new vidders don't want to do any of the work yet they go on and on about how great their new video is and how creative they are. HA!

Even posting your video without permission is still wrong! Not only do they not ask but they say nothing of where they got it. Shame!

Yes, I think we're all in for it with YouTube. As if things weren't bad enough already. Someone wrote me saying one of my Harry Potter videos was on YouTube and that's when I spotted Barbi's (still can't find the one of mine that's supposed to be there). And saw a bunch of Di's and other Return to Innocence vidders. Awful feeling. :-(

I would not be surprised Marie to find some of your other videos posted up there too. Seems to be a common practice on that place!
