i just found out that i miss the dci age-out date by 24 days. i'm pissed cuz we have like 4 people who wanted to go try out at a bunch of different places and I was all psyched and like 'yeah i'll do it this year!' and I started practicing 4 hours a day and running to get in shape for tryouts. 24 measly days age out ( Read more... )

Just keep in mind you're nowhere near as big of a failure as me. I read that last comment and I thought 'what the fuck?'
Seriously, you're doing better than quite a few others. But then, I don't have much hope for the future.

ok sure but i know people who are graduating college this year. i know others who are off in the army in leadership positions. i know a couple more who are about 24 and well into making a great career, bringing in over $40k a year... compare that to my $10k and ... yeah...
i let this great opportunity slip by me, and it'll haunt me for the rest of my life. i knew it would. but on the other hand, i couldn't imagine scraping together $6k for a summer of marching where i didn't earn any income and didn't get any school credit. for that reason, it's good that i didn't do it, so there IS an upside. but i'm not going to ignore the fact that it is something i have a passion for, and you DO the things you are passionate about, you don't just sit back and watch them fly by. that is all.

You're not 24 though, so there's still time left. I'm not going to get started on my opinion on the miltary. I'm not going to elaborate on how many things I wish I had done better because I'm trying to focus on the present and let the past be what it is and leave no regrets.
In my personal experience I find it's easier to live life for the moment and not be overly concerned with the future or how well others are doing and how you could've been there. I prefer to live life focusing on being happy with what I have.. but don't interpret me as saying to not try for something better, just don't let that be your main focus in life.

Hardly a "failure", just a missed opportunity (JimUTUSA) anonymous September 15 2006, 08:49:46 UTC
Alex ~ Through your lingering inner castigation, fat food consumption, sorrow and hurt of all this, must surely emerge, after timely rational reflection, the understanding that this is certainly not a personal "failure" that condemns one to eternal vocational and monetary irrelevance. It is in fact, at worst, a lost opportunity; likely not the last to be experienced in your long, successful life ahead. So, kick yourself for a while, if you must. But then, with the constant rhythm of the inner drum beat that stirs within your heart, mind and soul, move on with your head, hope, honor and expectations held high ( ... )
