Sherlock Holmes and Avatar

On Sunday, I went to the movies to watch Sherlock Holmes (starring Robert Downey Jr, Jude Law, Rachael McAdams) and Avatar.

First off, I must say that I loved, loved Jude Law as Watson, he's the best Watson I've ever seen, and Watson-Holmes interaction. As me and the BFF said, They are so gay ( Read more... )

THE WORLD NEEDS TO KNOW OF MY AWESOMENESS. CLEARLY IT SHOULD BE LINKED.

(also, if this turns up in the 'official mutilated science' of the evolution of the Na'vi, I shall laugh and laugh and laugh.)

Soooo yeah. Basically. Don't tell my bio teacher I used all that learnin' to figure out alien societies. The only thing worse I could do is use it to figure out alien porn.

...huh. Well, at least I can feel good that I wondered why the Na'vi didn't have a third set of limbs? And why they were shaped just like humans...

Though I still like the movie. But I also freely admit I like some movies with plots/worlds that are not completely logical.

*clings to happy memories of the pretty movie*

Considering that James Cameron just wanted to have a 'sexy' alien that the so-called-target audience would want to see the main character with, third set of limbs would be consdiered tooooooo alien.

I liked the movie in concept. plot-wise, problematic. Themewise, distasteful. Giant concept of world/and animals? Pretty interesting and worth looking at in detail. Humans not necessary. >.>

*snerks*

There is a lot of colonialism, and the whole, 'white person guilt fantasy', which as one of the links I'd linked to said, it's the ultimate fantasy of rejecting colonialism. White dude gets to REBEL against his evil people, gets to be ONE of the minority, HELPS the minority, becomes a better samurai Na'vi than the Na'vi, becomes their God of Woah, and gets to lead them to victory.

It's a white man's story. If it had been made by and for, say, Native Americans, the story would have been entirely different.

No Jake Sully for one.
