The only media 'conspiracy' in the U.S. is that most of the media outlets (on every political side) are in business to make money-- the "news" is simply one of the mechanisms by which they get people to watch paid material.
So, if it doesn't sell... it doesn't get played. Silly protestors fail to understand that. The 'non-coverage' apparently does sell well enough to get played (plus the defense against accusations may be necessary as PR to avoid losing audience over perceived bias).
IMO the biggest misinformation/propaganda in this mess is from the folks claiming "not to be heard". It's also kind of reminding me of the peace protests of the 80s. (but not as likely as effective - and considering that the peace protests were basically ineffective...)
