Take Us Out of the World, Multiverse...

I stumbled across a bit of news that at first glance seems very cool, but could potentially end in a disaster. Seems that there are plans in the works for a Firefly MMO (Massively Multilayer Online for those not in the know) game. Okay, here's the thing ...

There is no game ... NO GAME that is not going to have its share of l33t-speaking a55h013s that are going to fuxx0r it up for everyone. You could be sitting in a sylvan glade in the city of the Wood Elves, talking with a deposed princess who needs to give you the secret Key of Silverfall Keep, and someone's going to come walking through screaming: "Y0! 15th lvl Dthnght LFG PST Bxtchazz...". It's just impossible. You see it on the ROLEPLAY ONLY servers. And then they'll get indignant about it. "Um ... didn't you see the big 'roleplay' sign when you came in here?" Yeah, I can see your point here. ANd yes, you're never going to NOT have L33T asshats. But yeah, I guess the Reavers would be tailor made to those kinds of gamers. Still, don't like 'em.

I really hope if it does get made it gets made well and avoids the usual TV/Movie Game Tie-In curse. Most of the time, in my experience anyway, games tied in with movies or TV tend to be festering piles of garbage. One noteable exception off the top of my head was Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay for the OGX-Box. Crappy movie, really good game. Hopefully, this potential Firefly game will be good. It would indeed be very disappointing if it ended up sucking.
