Hey, guys? STFU!!! (Gaming Geekery)...
Because I'm a geek, I read several gaming news sites. Yeah, big shocker there, I know. However, and this is nothing new, there's things going on that just makes my eye twitch a bit when I see it. Like I said, it's nothing new, but I feel like spouting off about it, so I will. NYAH!!
So, now that we are in the thick of Christmas Season, coming up on the finish line, what many in the gaming industry are wondering about is "Which console will be the Heavyweight Champion of '06?!" Well, I think the Wii should be disqualified because it's actually something of a flyweight. Seriously, that thing is SMALL!! I think my iPod could kick its ass. heh
But anyway. If I had to venture a guess, it's going to be between the XBox 360 and the Wii. The PS3 is too expensive, has an excetionally mediocre selection of launch titles, and it's easier to get ahold of a dragon egg than it is to get ahold of the PS3 in many places. But you never know. To be honest with you, which one is the "winner" doesn't really concern me. I'm not planning on buying any of them right now. Of course, where Santa to slip one under my tree, I'd be very pleased, but it would be gravy on top of the turkey and mashed potato that is my life right now. heh. The thing is, though, I really don't have an "allegiance" to any one console. The way I see it, it's all big Mega-Corporations that want our money. However, you'd think that these consoles are sports teams from the way that some gamers are talking about them.
OK, maybe sports teams is pushing it. These are geeks we're talking about. Maybe think more along the lines of the Star Wars/Star Trek/Lord of the Rings trifecta. heh. Again, this does not surprise me. If nothing else, nerds love to argue on teh intarwebz about which console's kung fu is the best. You've got your Wii-tards, PS3-fags and 360-Dicks. Really, to all of them, I'd kind of like to say that the Captain has turned on the Sit the Fuck Down and Shut the Fuck Up Light.
If youre a Wii fan? GREAT!! The Wii is semi-removed from this debate, since Nintendo has a pretty solid history of going off the path and doing things a bit differently. The Wii is there, some like it, some don't, but that's nothing like the Capulets/Montagues-esque net feuds I've been seeing between 360 and PS3 fans. Seriously, it's gamers like these that make blood in the marketplace. But hey guys? Guess what? ALL are punish'ed. Ok, enough of the Shakespeare referrences. Heh. With some of these asshats, it is really like watching a bunch of wet cats fighting in a sack. One of the most obvious examples of this brainless kahfuffle I've seen lately broke out when a rumor got circulated that Metal Gear Solid 4 might not end up being a PS3 exclusive. Oh man, did that ever call down the thunder! One thing the PS3 fans were constantly shouting was a comment from the folks over at Konami that "We have no plans to port MGS4 to any other console at this time." You see, it's the "At this time." I'm sure that maybe as it stands right now, MGS4 IS meant to be a PS3 exclusive. Of course, we've heard that song before. Let's be honest, like any other company, Konami is a business, and they KNOW that if they don't get the kind of numbers they like from releasing it only on the PS3, then they're more than likely going to go for another slice of that fat money cake and port it to the 360. And the way Sony's been losing exclusive franchises recently, it wouldn't surprise me at all.
Don't get me wrong, I am a fan of the Playstation. I fully intend to pick up a PS3 when there are more good games out for it, a price drop or two, and after they get some bugs worked out. As I said a while back, I would imagine that the order I'll get this generation of consoles will probably be 1)The Wii, 2)The XBox 360, and 3)The PS3. Maybe not. We'll see. The thing is though that when I get one of the next gen consoles, I'm planning to spend time, I don't know, PLAYING it instead of trolling web forums yelling at people that don't like the thing.

You know, the thing that that big hunk of electronics now sitting in your entertainment center actually DOES? Why are you sitting there bitching PS3_F4N265 out when you haven't finished Gears of War yet? You really do have other things to do, you know.
Yes, I know that stuff like this is never going to go away. I'm under no illusions about that. Hell, I'm doing it myself right now. In my defense though, none of my consoles are anywhere near me. But guys, come on. As gamers, we tend to look ridiculous enough in the eyes of non-gamers as it is. We don't need them seeing us bickering over expensive chunks of consumer electronics to make us look even dumber. But if we keep this kind of crap up, we're heading dangerously fast into the territory of the Uber-Dumb. I mean, dumb as the asshats that scream about Star Wars news on the Aint it Cool News forums.
