Sometimes if a car is old the insurance will write if off even if damage was minor--also, to replace replace the fiberglass bumpers are more expensive than the old metal ones.
Good thing you didn't close the bank account or you would've receive a bill with the "plus interest" tacked on it. A reminder: Be sure to get the names of the people you're talking to over the phone canceling/settling the car insurance.
