Lucy slowly closed the lid of her laptop waiting until the hum of the hard drive stopped and she knew the computer had gone into hibernation. She never actually turned it off, could never bring herself to completely shut off from the cyber world, a world she was infinitely more comfortable in than the real world. In the real world she had few friends and none that she would call close and her family were long gone. But she never felt lonely, all she had to do was boot up her computer and she had a hundred or more friends waiting for her. None of them judged her, none of them cared if she was sat in pyjamas with unwashed hair or if she was singing (badly) at the top of her voice or if she was taking her turns on the latest game she had become addicted to. She was accepted for who she was in her online world and that was where she felt safe.
