I've given up on word count. My supervisor says trying to write to a word count just adds unnecessary stress and I should just keep writing until the report is finished. It's probably just as well I'm going to stop counting because I have to delete a large chunk that my supervisor deemed irrelevant. Why he told me this on the third re-write of the ( Read more... )

At least you're on the right track now - one of the more important things I learned from my dissertation was that a word count is entirely optional. Supposed to be 7-8k words, I think I scraped 3.5k and somehow finagled a pefectly decent mark.

If it's still all too much, you could try taking beta-blocker drugs. My sister swears by them for exams and musical performances, and apparently they're wonderful for dealing with panic attacks. They do have side effects, largely drowsiness, but if you've got insomnia already those might help two-fold.

Stress is something that I haven't dealt with well all the way through university - I'm doing positively brilliantly at the moment. :D I've been on anti stress medication since September, and whilst I didn't think it was doing too much it might just be helping. :)
