Yeah if it's just a connection, it should be easily fixable. If you don't want to pay for a computer tech, you should be able to get a little soldering iron at Radio Shack for 10-15 dollars - and if you buy the iron, maybe they'd help you solder it right there, or tell you how.
also, you've prob. already checked this, but you might check if the fan is running freely. Dust, smoke particles, etc. can clog a fan or its air passageway. Blowing it all out (the fan and the board, etc) with a can of compressed air can fix it, which fixed the overheating problem on one computer I worked on which had been shutting down several times a day. And, you prob. already have this under control, but keeping the laptop on a hard surface (board, large book, table, etc.) helps keep the vents on its bottom open for free air passage.
Yeah i was probably treating it poorly in the beginning but I've always tried to keep it up on a book or flat surface lately. I used to throw it down on my bed and it would overheat in 15 minutes. i'm an idiot.
I know its probably fixable but the fact remains it was a piece of crap for what i needed it to do, about at the end of its life and a deal from dell with a decent video card is only going to cost me $830.
