If your mom is willing to help you out, I say go for it. He's young and has plenty of good years left. Plus, you love him. It's worth it.

I, personally, would spend my last dime on my cats if the need arose. I don't draw a line between my human and non-human family members. My vote goes for saving the Colonel.
