Vikki's Top Ten Awesome Fictional Females

10) Arizona Robbins

Arizona is possibly the most lovable, endearing female character on television. I love that beyond the sunny outlook and wheelie shoes, Arizona is a fighter. She's also a brilliant role model for lesbians out there but her sexuality doesn't define her even though she is part of one of the more stable relationships on the show. She has a brilliant way with children and, even though she may cry, she can stand up to authority and her peers too.

9) Adelle DeWitt

Adelle is my favourite HBIC, no doubt about it. I love her strength and her no nonsense attitude but also the fact that there is a heart and a sense of humour beyond the surface. Although Dollhouse only last two short seasons, Adelle experienced so much character development which really brought out the caring, motherly side of her.

8) Addison Montgomery

My favourite non-Sci Fi female character. Another character I wasn't exactly a fan of start with but she grew on me so quickly. Although I might not love the way she is in relationships with men, she is still a truly awesome character. Her strength of character is inspiring and the way she packed up her life in Seattle to begin all over again in LA was really impressive, especialy as she is now Head of the private practice. That also qualifies her as one of my favourite HBICs.

7) OIivia Dunham

From the outset, Olivia just seemed like a ordinary FBI agent and the most extraordinary thing about her was her forbidden relationship with her partner. Olivia has had to come to terms with a lot of changes in her life very quickly and with the presence of paranormal activity. Not much seems to phase Olivia and she's coped with a lot, whilst still showing her human side and her emotions.

6) Winifred (Fred) Burkle

My second favourite nerdy physicist! Fred had a fantastic journey from a Southern girl trapped in a demonic realm, to a demon hunter and eventyally into the demon Illyria. Fred is truly good hearted and loving, unable to face the murder of her idol who had forced her into the hell dimension and unable to feel the same way about her boyfriend afterwards. Fred transformed from a nerdy scientist to the head of Wolfram and Hart's labratory. capturing our hearts along the way.

5) Helen Magnus

Magnus has an unfair advantage, being more than 100 years older than the rest of the characters in this list but she still more than deserves to be here. Out of all of the women on this list she has truly been through the most; finding out the love of her life was a serial killer, losing friends and lovers over the years and finally losing her daughter to the Cabal. Still she remains stronger and tougher than ever, carrying on her work at the Sanctuary, regardless of her personal sorrows.

4) Juliet Burke

I started off now particularly liking Juliet, but she quickly became my favourite female character on Lost. She is yet another character to have had to overcome many obstacles in her life. She left behind her dying sister to come to the island where she made a life for herself and eventually team up with the good guys. Whatever the circumstances, Juliet always had an undeniable strength and a ready wit, eventually making the ultimate sacrifice to save her friends.

3) Dana Scully

It was so hard to pick the top three characters and which order to put them in! It pains me that Scully is only at #3 but in regards to the X Files, it was always Mulder I identified with the most. I love her beliefs are rooted in both science and religion and, of course, her transition from sceptic to 'believer' as the show progressed. She showed unbelievable strength in beating her cancer, dealing with her pregnancy alone and having to carry on her life without Mulder; her partner and her constant.

2) Samantha (Sam) Carter

Sam is another one of those revolutionary female characters; a real heroine. The science fiction genre does strong, confident, intelligent women better than any other, even back in the 1980s and 90s. Sam has had quite the journey throughout the 10 seasons of SG-1, the two subsequent movies, her season as head of the Atlantis mission and now in her position in charge of the Hammond. We've watched her weather many ups and downs; the death of her father, her relationship with Pete and her rise through the ranks. Also, she makes physics seem interesting and that is really quite an achievement in my eyes!

1) Deanna Troi

Although it could be argued that Scully and Sam rank far higher in the awesome stakes than Deanna, she's still my favourite female television character. Scully and Sam are and come across as strong, confident and intelligent and I love that about them but Deanna has a different sort of strength of character. I love that, even though Star Trek: The Next Generation  began airing in the 1980s, Deanna always had an important role to play and seemed to always be the heart of the team. For me, she is the most inspiring of these ten characters because of how in touch she is with her feelings and her quiet confidence as well as her lovely subtle sense of humour.
