It's spelled 'Forte' and it's pronounced "Fort", so science is not your Forte. :) Later Days Kayley J (:

It's pronounced Fort-ay, and is a musical term meaning loud. In this sense, it means strong.

Regarding Forte: It is spelled the same way in French and Italian.

The Italians pronounce the final 'e' and it becomes "fort-ay". Italian words are used in music.

French word 'forte' is an adjective and the 'e' is not pronounced, so the word is "fort".

English borrows words from every language and sometimes twists the words to create a new meaning. The common idiomatic expression in english is "fort-ay" meaning your particular strength or ability.

You can also pronounce it "fort" but most people who speak english will look at you funny, but both are correct.

But "fort-ay" is idiomatic which means it has it's own particular meaning, and does not neccesarily follow any gramatical rules.

Love,

Mom & Joan
