another person's politics affect YOUR life as well; they decide through vote what you learn in school, whether or not you get health insurance, and even whether or not you live or die. So this would be a case where other people's ignorance/personal opinions have a massive influence on your own quality of life
. . . . where as their race and/or religion do not. Unless they are using religion as an excuse to hurt people . . . . but then, that's not really the religion . . . . more of the person behind it.
