Olympic Ladies' FS: Mao Asada

Feb 25, 2014 13:33

Okay, let's do this.  I'm going to look at the Olympic FS again for Asada, Kostner, Sotnikova, and Kim, and write down my own impressions.  I'll look at the protocols as well.  I'll post about the programs one at a time so I don't overwhelm myself.
My thoughts on each of her elements and her overall performance. )

Fascinating! Thank you for this thoughtful post. I thought her final skate was glorious, and that's without even knowing this interesting technical info.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one stunned away by her free skate performance! Now, I never noticed all the technical mistakes, but even with the mistakes, her performance was absolutely brilliant. Like you, I have a thing for Rachmaninoff's "Piano Concerto No. 2", and the way Mao just skated to this, all composed but still with emotion after the disastrous short skating -- she was a champion with this performance. Every time I watch this, I am in tears at the end with her. It was just gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous. And powerful enough to pull her from 16th to 6th place.

I am so glad you are writing these posts!

And that skate is why I Facebook-messaged you. It was so moving.
