Facebook and Twitter have cannibalized the popularity of platforms like Blogger and LiveJournal, but I still like having a place for longer-form writing, meant for nobody in particular but available to a larger (though still somewhat filtered) group of friends and aquantances ( Read more... )

I'm always super surprised when I find anyone new who still uses Livejournal. I don't even know how teenagers find out about it anymore.

Anyway, I don't really write directly about my life or experiences here, since it's so easy to do the microblogging thing instead, but I appreciate the versatility allowed by the long-form entries, as it allows for rants, arguments, lists, letters, stories and poems as well as personal updates, and those are usually more interesting for everyone involved.

i could never abandon my dear livejournal.

but thanks to twitter, i do post less.

and am always sad i have less to read on my friends page.

To me the longer platform communities are a different type of blogger that doesn't want to update what their doing constantly.
