ok, so my car is at least still running...but i am not driving it anywhere. It's not dead or anything, it's just that you can hear it coming form a mile away. See, there is a complete break in the exhaust pipe that runs underneath the length of my car. We tried to jam a bunch of stuff up there to fix it, but it seems like it ain't holding too well ( Read more... )

I know it's gonna sound really silly and stupid, but I've seen this work and had it suggested to me before- have you tried Duct Tape? I know, I know, sounds like the dumbest idea ever but in college I had a friend who used to let any one of his friends use his car. Well, one of them hit a pot hole or something or other happened and the metal exhaust line broke- making the same effect you seem to be getting (extremely loud car noise). He duct taped the hole and that worked until my friend could get the car fixed. If you've already tried it then I would suggest making the car look real pretty and then just trying to go to one of those dealers that will "take anything" and give you some trade in value for it. Good luck!

i dont think it sounds dumb...as a matter of fact, i had the exact same thought.

however, both my father and his mechanic friend tell me that the area in question would get way too hot for duct tape...who knew? apparently not me...

Aw damn, sorry to hear the car's on its way out. :( That sucks. Good luck with any other tricks you might have for it though!
