As for jaywalking... I'm not really even sure what that is, or whether there's really a law against it in my jurisdiction. I've never heard a credible story of a jaywalking citation, at any rate, so for me jaywalking falls in the category of parking at a parking meter at midnight and not paying, when there's a sticker on it saying it's enforced during banker's hours ( ... )

WRT jaywalking, it is irrelevant whether you have heard of someone getting busted, the US has many laws which or intermittantly enforced. Jaywalking is crossing a street awhen you don't get a walk signal and crossing the street when you aren't at an intersection. I do it all the time and sometimes in foreign countries (with lots of natives.) For the record, I have heard of people getting busted for jaywalking to the tune of $200.
I loathe and despise laws that protect me from myself. That's the beauty of natural selection.
